What is your stress level when level
when you hear the word
technology?
“We need technology in
every classroom and in every
student and teacher’s hand,
because it is the pen and
paper of our time, and it
is the lens through which
we experience much of our
world.”
– David Warlick
Today's
Session
We are going to look at various ways to
integrate and manage technology in your
lessons.
Managing technology when:
• facilitating group activities
• conducting research
• communicating final projects
• classroom has only 1 computer or multiple
computers
• using handheld devices
• Smartphones
• Ipads, tablets, or laptops
Facilitating groups activities
Best Practices
• Plan each stage of group activity
• Organize groups effectively
• Group size, Skill level
• Discuss expectations and
grading
• Choose interdependent
activities
• Monitor progress
Online Resources
• Collaboration Tools
• Google Applications
(Google Slides)
• Online File Sharing
• Google Drive
• One Drive
• Video Conferencing
• Zoom, Skype, Google Meet
Conducting research
Research Tools
• ReadWriteThink
Notetaker
• HistoryPin
• Popplet
• Lazy Scholar
• Free academic articles
Application that allow
for synchronous
collaboration and feedback
• Collabrify Suite
• Scratchwork.
• These tools allow for
students and teachers
to work together
• Editing & providing
feedback in real time
Communicating
final projects
There are many ways students can
present their final projects:
• Animoto
• Google Slides
• Emaze
• Microsoft powerpoint
• MoveNote
• Record Vlog (Video Blog)
• Create Podcast
• Design an Infographic
• Create a brochure
• Build an interactive timeline
• Create a digital comic strip
Managing
Technological
Devices
Computers in the Classroom
1 Computer
• Assign one person to be the note-
taker
• Schedule management
• Make a rotation schedule for the
students
• Use Popsicle sticks
• Color code students
• Use a website to upload class content
• Google Classroom
Multiple Computer Classroom
• Allows for multiple students to work
on an assignment at one time
• Use digital tools for group
presentations
• Powerpoints, Digital stories, Prezi

Use
Managing Handheld Devices
• Establish Norms and guidelines for usage
• Emphasis on using the tools for learning
• Place all phones in a phone caddy when
phones are not in use
• In a normal situation, sharing of devices
should be encouraged
• All digital applications used should be
educational

Conclusion
Technology does not have to be frightening!!
We have discussed many types of digital reasons
that can be used for many different types of
assessments and uses.
These tools will keep students engaged and be
more accountable for their learning.
I challenge you to choose one and implement in
one lesson

(n.d.). https://teaching.cornell.edu/resource/group-work-how-create-manage-groups.  Groups can be a difficult task to manage if they are managed right. When setting up groups make sure they are organized effectively. Make sure the group is not too big and a mixture of skill levels. Once groups are set, ow make sure the activity given is planned at every stage. Set groups expectations and discuss rubric and how the activity will be graded and how each person will be graded as well.  The activity should have interdependent parts so that each student needs the other students input or work. As the groups are working, walk around and monitor progress so that they stay on task.  Rugg, A. (2018, November 21). How to use tech to facilitate small-group work - HumTech - UCLA. HumTech. https://humtech.ucla.edu/how-to/how-to-use-tech-to-facilitate-small-group-work/.  Some digital online resources for collaboration include google applications, such as google slides and google doc. Other collaboration tools include video conferencing that allows for communication with people virtually or just in the group to work together.

There are many types of research tools that can be used such as ReadWriteThink Notetaker, a tools that allows the student to read and organize their findings in an outline. HistoryPin, is a tool where people upload stories and pictures about local communities. Popplet, is another that used shapes to create organized graphics of notes and can even be used a collaboration tool as well.  Kolb, L. (2018, September 28). Mnay students are familiar with google slides and powerpoints because many teachers use them to present their lesson already. Animoto and Emaze creates video presentation, where presentations can be customized with video, photos, music and text. MoveNote works the same way but students can use their webcams instead of separate devices. Blog post: 38 Ways Students Can Create Digital Content. K. Dr Catlin Tucker. https://catlintucker.com/2014/01/5-tips-for-managing-mobile-devices-in-the-classroom/.  There are a few ways to handling handheld devices in the classroom. Handheld devices include but not limited to smartphones, ipads, tablets, chromebooks and laptops. Some students see this as a opportunity to text and snap friends, so you will need to make sure the lessons that use these devices are engaging.  Establish guidelines and norms the students have to follow when using these devices and emphasis the learning aspects of these tools and why they are being used in class. Once finished with the phones place them a phone caddy holder and put all other devices away after usage. In a normal situation, sharing of devices would be another way to engage the students because they are required to be in close proximity of each other in order to collaborate. Lastly make sure the applications the students are using are educational and not just entertainment.
