Measured by God
Text: Rev 11:1
Rev 11:1
1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod:
and the angel stood,
saying, Rise,
and measure
the temple of God, and
the altar, and
them that worship therein.
Intro:
Belshazzar when displaying himself as the Prince of
Pleasure, Power and Prosperity, was suddenly Measured
by God- and found wanting.
A ruler without conformity to the standard of Measure is a
weak worthless despot when God comes to Measure a
man.
Example: cutting mat with incorrect measurements.
In our text God checks the calibration of three things.
Notice the first thing on His list.
Rev 11:1
1 …and the angel stood,
saying, Rise,
and measure
the temple of God…
I. The Sanctuary “the temple of God”
1Sam 3:3
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the
LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid
down to sleep;
Ps 119:105
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto
my path.
The lamp of God should be burning bright in the church, if
ever a man should see the errors of his ways it should be
clearly seen in “the temple of God”, if the Sanctuary
Measures up. Unfortunately, in most churches today, like
the days of Eli, the Lamp of God has gone out.
2Kgs 11:10
10 And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give
king David's spears and shields, that were in the temple
of the LORD.
A church that measures up is able to equip its members
with the armor need to defend against the wiles of the
Devil he is sure to face.
1Chr 10:10
10 And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and
fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
The Devil has a temple too. The best way to infiltrate is to
counterfeit. The church should be clearly different than the
imitation.
Entertainment is an endless exercise in futility. A Godly
sanctuary should exalt God, not seek to gratify human
recreation.
When God measures the temple of Dagon all the relics of
recreation will fall flat on their face. The creator is not
interested in your Re-creation.
Rev 11:1
1 …and the angel stood,
saying, Rise,
and measure
1) the temple of God, and
2) the altar…
II. The Sacrifice “the altar”
2Kgs 16:10-12 10 And king Ahaz went to Damascus to
meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that
was at Damascus: and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the
priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it,
according to all the workmanship thereof.
11 And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all
that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the
priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus.
12 And when the king was come from Damascus, the
king saw the altar: and the king approached to the altar,
and offered thereon.
Ahaz removed the true altar and installed a copy of
Tiglathpileser’s pagan production.
Not many Christians are interested in giving up what God
demands these days; but the purpose of an altar is to offer
a perfect sacrifice.
Matt 23:18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar,
it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that
is upon it, he is guilty.
Matt 23:19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater,
the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
The Jews were condemned for swearing lightly by the
Altar.
Rom 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God.
A Christian that has not committed himself as an offering
to God should not lightly claim the title “Christian”.
Rev 11:1
1 …and the angel stood,
saying, Rise,
and measure
1) the temple of God, and
2) the altar, and
3) them that worship therein.
III. The Servants- “them that worship”
2Chr 26:16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted
up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the
LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to
burn incense upon the altar of incense.
Worship without a heart submitted to God is a vain display
of piety that is only evidence of self-destruction.
Any worship that calls attention to man instead of God is
not worship that will measure up, when God measures a
man.
Isa 43:21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall
shew forth my praise.
Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and glorify your Father which
is in heaven.
Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
It’s an attitude, actions can be faked.
1Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called
you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Conclusion:
Eph 4:11-15
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and
some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the
knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto
the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and
fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the
sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in
wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in
all things, which is the head, even Christ:
