Font: CRUSHED
Crushed is a font that represents the hip hop lifestyle
and its multiple aspects. These aspects include the
street lifestyle, gang crime and the lifestyle in general.
BUZZ is a term that denotes vibrancy and is a common
hip hop terminology to denote passion.
Font: Polar Vortex
This font is bold, appealing and rough around
the edges which matches 3 common
characteristics for those within the hip hop
industry. The term ‘Dope’ is a slang term which
is used in the streets and is extremely familiar
with those in my target audience (African
American’s).
Font: Motor
Motor is a bold, large and informative font that is
extremely relevant to the hip hop genre. However
this font is not very readable which could be seen as
a huge drawback. ‘Cliché’ is an extremely effective
masthead title as it reveals to the audience that
there is more than one side to my magazine and
explores many aspects within Hip Hop. In addition
‘Cliche’ is also a well known skating brand which is
extremely popular amongst African American
teenagers (my target audience)

Social Media- Social Media pages
generally feature on a magazine front
cover/ contents page and keep all readers
up to date with the magazine. Both
Facebook and twitter pages ensure that
the audience are able to follow and keep in
touch with the magazine (builds a
relationship.)
Editorial- The purpose of an editorial is to
build a ‘personal’ relationship (Katz) with the
reader. I must also ensure that my editorial is
presented in an informal tone in order to
ensure that my magazine is relevant to my
genre. I must therefore use terms such as ‘sick’
and ‘dope’ in order to appeal to my target
audience.
Product Placement- Throughout the creation of my magazine I
will feature relevant products which are related to my genre.
These hip hop related products include snapback caps, golden
chains and many more modern products. This also gives the
audience an insight to the hip-hop lifestyle and attracts ‘explorers’
(Maslow’s) who are aiming to find their social status.
Web Address- The magazine web address is
generally located in the barcode area, this remains a
traditional and professional format. This builds the
brand identity of my magazine and it also appears
on most pages in order to give the reader an insight
into my magazine.
Price- The price of a magazine determines the social
group and class of readers that you are aiming at. This
also establishes the quality of the product and your
brand in general.

This is inspired by Sky Sports which is a well
known sporting channel in the UK. Although this
is irrelevant to hip hop this strapline is known
across the country and I have made this relevant
to my genre. This also builds a relationship
between my magazine and the reader as the
term ‘home’ allows readers to immerse
themselves with the magazine (Katz).
The Nations Buzz:
This strapline will appeal to a wide range of readers due
to the fact that it applies to the entire nation and also
displays the significance of my magazine. I have also
used a potential masthead name ‘Buzz’ which makes
the strapline directly relevant to my masthead.
Hustling to Hip Hop:
This strapline reveals the hip hop lifestyle and multiple
stereotypes associated with the genre. ‘Hustling’ displays the
gang crime and street life of those who have become hip hop
artists. This strapline will directly appeal to my target audience
who most likely live this lifestyle and will inspire them to follow
a rout of hip hop (Katz).
