Session 1: Introductions and Icebreaker (15 minutes)
ICEBREAKER: INTERVIWING YOUR NEIGHBOUR [15 MINS]
INSTRUCTIONS
Conduct small interview.
Each pair is given roughly five minutes to exchange personal information i.e
each other’s names, information about who gave them the name and the
meaning of their names, work station, designation and HIV-related trainings
attended.
You can take notes and write down what the other person is saying.
Introduce each other to the group based on the interview

The Course Aim
By the end of 6 days participants should be:
Equipped with knowledge and skills in providing quality HIV
Testing Services using the Client Initiated and Provider
Initiated testing and counseling approaches.
This training course is designed to offer guidance in
implementing the UNAIDS & WHO international guidelines
in HIV testing and counseling in health facilities.

Understand HIV and AIDS Disease Progression
Discuss the different HIV Testing Services’ delivery models
Identify the benefits and risks of each approach
Emphasize 5Cs as an important course objective
Outline the referral and linkage systems
Discuss the benefits and challenges of HIV Testing in
health facilities in relation to Provider Initiated Testing
and Counseling

Demonstrate understanding of PITC implementation for different
Services/Groups at different entry points
Equip Health Care Workers (HCW) with knowledge and skills in
providing PITC for specialized groups i.e. children, adolescents,
pregnant women and key and vulnerable populations
Conduct HIV Rapid Testing
Discuss Monitoring and Evaluation issues pertaining to HIV Testing
Services
Discuss quality assurance in relation to HIV testing and counselling
