13. Morality from the Perspective
of other Disciplines
Aristotle: Man is naturally a social being that seeks happiness
Aquinas: Man has a natural tendency to be rational and familiar
being.
Adam Smith: Man is motivated by sympathy as well as self
interest
Karl Marx: Morality, religion, philosophy has no independent
meaning
Freud: People have instincts, especially sexual and aggressive but
not moral sense. Morality is the result of representing those
instincts.
14. Principles that occurred
for social order
1. Rationalistic and individualistic – society consist of
people pursuing their self interest; order exist because
people want to be ruled.
2. Normative and Communal – system of benefits and
sentiments held by members of society sets limits to
what those members can do; pursuit interest, pity and
compassion.
15. Three types of Decision
1. Technical – uses rational, scientific criteria, principles
and standards
2. Ethical – uses standards of morality that tells us what is
right or wrong, good or bad
3. Aesthetical – does not only refer to art or society; if it
will make the person happy or result is temporary
resolution to the problem.
