Network Cable Splicing
CLASS RULES
1. Listen well to the
instructions of your teacher
and to the answers of your
classmates, for in
LISTENING, you are
showing an act of
KINDNESS.
2. COOPERATE and do all the
activities together with your
group mates. Doing the tasks
together is not only helping
each other but it becomes
more FUN and EXCITING.
3.
4. It’s time for LEARING. Using
gadgets can distract your
learning process. Focus is a key
to proper learning.
REVIEW
In the previous lesson, it was
discussed that to set up a computer
network there are several computer
network tools, materials, testing
device and equipment are used.
Networking
tool
Picture Description/Uses
1. Crimper
(Crimping
tool)
a device used to crimp the RJ45
connector to the UTP cable. The result
of the tool's work is called a crimp.
2. RJ45
Connector
an 8-pin connection used for Ethernet
network adapters. Short for Registered
Jack-45
3. Network
Cable
a popular type of cable used in
computer networking that consists of
two shielded wires twisted around
each other. Also known as Unshielded
Twisted Pair (UTP).
4. Network
Cable
Tester
A device that is used to test the
strength and connectivity of a
particular type of cable or other wired
assemblies.
Network Cable Splicing
1. Are the pictures shown
familiar to you?
2. Based on the pictures, do you
have personal experiences
about it, be it in your
learning or your daily life?
Processing Question/s:
3. What do you think will be
our topic for today?
Processing Question/s:
NETWORK CABLE
SPLICING and
CABLE TESTING
At the end of the lesson, the
learners are expected to:
a. differentiate between
straight through cable and
crossover cable;
b. appreciate the importance
of correct color scheme on
each cable type to use;
c. perform cable splicing and
crimping; and network cable
testing following the color
scheme standards.
ACTIVITY
Find the details in Me!
* The class will be group into 4.
* Each group is given an information
sheet.
* Each group representative will
pick a strip of paper written the
information on what details to
search for or find from the
information sheet provided.
Directions:
* Answer the graphic organizer
(Idea Web) provided.
* Each group will choose a reporter
to discuss their answer and is
given 2 minutes.

APPLICATION
Network Cable Splicing and
Cable Testing
* The class will be group into 4.
* GROUP 1 is assigned to “perform
network cable splicing and
testing” (straight through and
crossover cable).
Directions:
* GROUP 2 is assigned to
“discovering working cables”.
Guide questions:
1. Identify the type of network
cables. How did you identify
each cable?
Directions:
2. Which cable is unfunctional?
What could be the possible
reason/s?
3. When you conduct the cable
testing, what is the light
indicator order of the tester both
left and right when inserted?
Guide questions:
* GROUP 3 is assigned to “compare
and contrast” straight through
and crossover cable using the
Venn Diagram.
Directions:

GENERALIZATION
a. differentiate between
straight through cable and
crossover cable;
b. appreciate the importance
of correct cable type to use
based on network needs;
How important it is to consider
the correct cable type to use
based on network needs?
Possible answers:
- Expenses
- Ease of use
c. perform cable splicing and
crimping, and network cable
testing following the color
scheme standards.
