Research Spotlight on Parental Involvement in Education
“When schools, families, and community
groups work together to support
learning, children tend to do better in
school, stay in school longer, and like
school more.”
http://www.nea.org/tools/17360.htm
Is defined as a combination of
commitment and active
participation on the part of the
parent to the school and to the
student. (LaBahn, J. 1995)
SixTypesofParentalInvolvement
Dr. Joyce Epstein of Johns Hopkins
University developed a framework that
defines six different types of parental
involvement. This framework assists
educators in developing school and
family partnership programs. Also
helping parents get into their child's
education process.
(Michigan Department of Education, National
Network of Partnership Schools, PTA.)

• Obtain funds and other support.
• Identify starting points.
