The story follows a tiny caterpillar that hatches from an egg and feels very hungry. Each day of the week, it eats a different fruit but remains hungry until eating a leaf on Sunday, which makes it feel better. It then spins a cocoon and emerges as a beautiful butterfly.

- 2. In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf. De noite ao luar havia um pequeno ovo numa folha .
- 3. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and pop! Out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. Numa bela manha de domingo o sol apareceu brilhante e quente! Saiu do ovo uma pequenina lagarta muito esfomeada.

- 5. On Monday he ate through one apple. But he was still hungry. Na segunda feira comeu uma maça. Mas ainda estava com fome. I’m still hungry! Eu ainda tenho fome!
- 6. On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry. Na terça feira comeu duas peras, mas ainda estava com fome. I’m still hungry! Eu ainda tenho fome!

- 12. Now he wasn’t hungry anymore- and he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more. Agora deixara de ter fome- e deixara de ser uma pequena lagarta. He was a big, fat caterpillar. Era uma lagarta grande e gorda.
- 13. He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Construiu uma pequena casa , chamada casulo, a sua volta. Permaneceu la dentro mais de duas semanas. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out ……… Entao, abriu um buraco no casulo, fez força ate conseguir sair...
