PROJECT WORK 
INTRODUCTION 
Project work is a series of activities that allows the students to study, do research and act by 
themselves using their abilities, interest personal experience and aptitudes. The project work 
progresses under the guidance and monitoring of a teacher or other adviser. The teacher or adviser will 
give ideas about project work, advice about the topic, how to manage the data collection process and 
planning. All levels of students can do project work. The students can work alone or with a group 
according to the project scope and difficulty. The project work might be small and easy or large and 
complicated. 
Project work is not a new methodology. Its benefits have been widely recognized for many years 
in the teaching of subjects like science etc. The project work at the higher level the expected learning 
outcomes of the pupil offering it as a course of study, and the means of appraising the performance in 
progress and upon completion of the course 
In today’s dynamic and fast changing world, pupil need to learn how to engage with issues and 
process, information that is presented in a manner that is less structured, not subject specific and open 
ended. Pupils need to learn to work together on tasks that require a restore of skills and to apply what 
they have learned to complete a project in a group. This is the principle on which project work at the 
higher level has been anchored and developed. 
A project work is a learning experience which aims to provide with the opportunity to synthesis 
knowledge from various areas of learning and critically and creatively apply it to real life situation. This 
process, which enhances pupils knowledge and enables them to acquire skills like collaboration 
communication and independent learning , prepares them for lifelong learning and the challenges 
ahead. 
The learning outcomes identify the key areas of learning of the subject. For learning outcomes 
are separately articulated: knowledge, application, communication, collaboration and independent 
learning. While candidates learn to work in groups they will also learn independently through self 
relection and evaluation of their own work processes. These learning outcomes exist in dynamic 
interplay rather than as compactmentalised and distinct catagories. The following are the learning 
outcomes for power work. 
1. Knowledge Application 
Pupils will acquire the ability to make links across different areas of knowledge and to generate, 
develop and evaluate ideas and information so as to apply these skills to the project task. 
2. Communication 
Pupils will acquire the skills to communicate effectively and to present ideas clearly and 
Coherently to a specific audience in both the written and oral forms
3. Collaboration 
Pupils will acquire collaborative skills through working in a term to achieve common goal. 
4. Independent learning 
Pupils will be able to learn on their own, reflect on their learning and take appropriate action 
improve it. 
The assignment in project work aims to measure the extent to which the pupil have achieved 
the expected learning outcomes. During the course, the pupils have to demonstrate their ability, 
individually and as a group, by applying the knowledge learned to develop a project task 
Pupils will be assessed in the following areas. 
 Knowledge Application 
Pupils are expected to demonstrate the ability to generate, develop and evaluate ideas and 
Information. So as to apply these skills as they carry out a project work. 
 Communication 
Pupils are expected to demonstrate the ability to present ideas clearly and coherently to a specific 
audience in both the written and oral form. 
Pupils are assigned to work in project work with each project work having four and five 
members. The project group are to work on a task that is designed to be broad enough to allow 
candidates to display their various skills and abilities. The groups are expected to complete the task 
within twentyeight weeks where they will define the project focus, analyse and evaluate the 
informantion gathered, prepare an oral presentation and submit a written report. 
Pupils will be assessed on their performance both as members of the group and as individuals 
assessment is made of candidates carrying out the project and of the final products delivered. 
Project work is nowadays considered to be a really effective way of teaching English that 
connects learning and using the language. The most important thing, however, is the fact that it 
doesnot improve only language skills, but also common knowledge and physical and social skills. 
Project work is usually a groupwork. For this reason its very important to establish a good 
working relationship. This develops students social skills. It is necessary to make a choice altogether 
discuss the problem and choose the best strategy to reach the goal. Then students have to divide their 
work, take their own role in the work and the responsibility for their part of the work. They have to 
cooperate and this is something really important in their real future life. Moreover , this cooperation 
should be considered as an important motivating factors. 
DIVISION OF PROJECT WORK
Project work cannot be characterized simple there is a large number of possibilities how to 
describe that the project work is. The teacher imagination and fantasy is crucial. However it is possible 
to anumarate some kinds of the most used projects. There are two types of projectwork motivating 
activities and full scale project. Fullscale activities are almost always extended out of the classroom 
whereas motivating activities usually take place in the classroom. They also differ in their length. 
Motivating activities are a form of easier work, they are in fact a preparation for fullscale, projects. 
These activities are usually shorter than full scale projects and they are also more suitable for younger 
learner. 
PARTS OF PROJECT WORK 
Project work is composed of several parts it is necessary to follow some rules of work otherwise 
it could be turned into chorus. A teacher should have a classplan for lessons. The main stages can be 
called motivation, preparation, classdiscussion, grouping, collecting materials discussion in small groups, 
creating the project, checking, recreating, display discussion and evaluating. This structure can differ in 
minor ways according to individual learning situation. At the beginning of the project is really very 
important to motivate students for the work. It should flow from the previous activity and its subject 
matter. Students should be looking forward to the work, they should want to create it. 
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CLASSROOM PROJECTWORK 
Nearly every teacher uses projects as some points to reinforce a lesson of give students and 
opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned. While project can be evaluate classroom tools, 
they do have some disadvantages project work well as assessment tools, but not every study will benefit 
from every project assigned. Many other disadvantages can be remedial though so project will increase 
comprehension and overall student learning students might create a poster board that demonstrate 
their knowledge of mammals or they could create a classroom presentation about the benefits of 
following the food pyramid guidliness. A project shows a teacher that students have met the lessons 
objective and she can share that information with her administrators. 
THE TEACHER’S ROLE IN PROJECT WORK 
 To motivate the students 
 To guide the project in order to prevent copy and paste or laziness. 
 To encourage creativity 
 To plan scheduled short project meetings for updates and progress reports 
 To have a very clear timetable of when each stage of the project should be completed 
 To maintain their own enthusiasm for the project, even when they are five weeks in 
MOTIVATING STUDENTS TO DO PROJECT WORK 
Sometimes particularly with adult student some group members won’t participate in project 
work. Most contributors to the chat agreed that the key to this was making sure that the students had 
some input in to choosing the topic of the project perhaps choosing from a list supplied by the teacher
or even coming up with the list themselves and them narrowing it down to the favourites. Give each 
students in a project work a role, a particular objective to help avoid coasting and to add peer pressure. 
Have a prize for the best project. Something worth tighting for students are generally motivated by 
teaching something they know to other students. 
CONCLUSION 
Project work is a series of activities, it is not a new methodology. When it comes to projectwork 
in the English classroom, there is often the question when it is the right time to do projects. Generally, 
there are several points in a school career at which project work could be used sensibly. However, the 
findings of our project show that there is a tendency among the interviewers to realize project work 
move often in higher grades. The majority starts projects in year 8 and from then on onwards to year 
12. This might give a valuable hint at the appropriate time in the school career, meaning that project 
are more likely to be realized in higher classes with regard to the frequency of project realized in English 
classes, our interviews showed that projects are mostly realized at least once a year, depending on how 
far the teachers have progressed with their classes and what time of the school year it is.
