City of Lenexa Demographics Population ~50,000 (est. 2010) 34.4 square miles Part of the Greater Kansas City Metro area 1,000 miles of fiber in the ground Largest concentration of Bio-Science companies in the State Known for its Festivals including the Great Lenexa BBQ Battle, Spinach Fest, Lenexa Chili Challenge, and  Water Fest
 
Awards Selected as a finalist for the All-American City Award Lenexa listed as one of the “Best Places to Live” by CNN Money Magazine Recognized nationally for its “Rain to Recreation” watershed management program Lake Lenexa Dam and Spillway received the U.S. Society of Dams 2009 Project of the Year Award  “ Special Achievement in GIS” award at the Environmental Systems Research Institute’s 29th Annual User Conference  Metro leader in the last two, bi-annual Citizen Satisfaction Surveys from the ETC Institute
Early Pioneers First municipal Wi-Max system in the nation. Uses included: Controlling signalization Monitoring intersections Public Works Inspectors Public Safety
Trail Markers With the help of an Eagle Scout candidate, Lenexa devised a new mapping and trail marking system using GIS information to enable trail users to report the location of an emergency. The new 911 trail marking system was tested as part of a pilot project coordinated with Mid-America Regional Council with plans to implement the program regionally in the future.

Interactive Maps New interactive maps provide information about: crime data parks and public areas construction projects land use development activity
Service Requests Location aware maps provide citizens the ability to request service for problems with roads, curbs, signs and streetlights Updates indicating the service request status
Community Development Maps
Zoning Maps Gives the mobile user the ability to see the zoning allowed by the City’s Comprehensive Plan
Subdivision Maps Gives the mobile user the ability to see the subdivisions near their current location
On the Horizon Contextual and Event driven, location oriented applications Mobile payments (fees, courts, donations) Support multiple mobile platforms Integrated analytics mixing items like location, real time feedback, and conditions like weather or events to produce interaction, alerts, or communication Overlay information we receive like crowd comments, with conditions such as weather or capacity of a location, to produce real time action Explore the interlacing of advertising and messaging from local companies with our mobile applications
