In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The genre that I chose to follow for my music magazine was ‘acoustic.’ Here is a magazine that follows the same sort of style to my magazine and the typical conventions of a music magazine.A big and bold masthead that stands out to the reader.Image of the featured artist on the frontText that shows that is included in the magazineA set color scheme that the photograph blends with
This is the front cover that I createdAs you can see I have used the conventions that I mentioned on the previous slide;A bold masthead that stands out to the reader – This is important for recognition purposes for example the reader immediately knows what genre of music is included in the magazine, and they recognize it in the shop.
An image of ‘Alex Johnson’ my featured artist
Subheadings of what is included inside the magazine. This interests the reader to see what else they will be reading if they buy the magazine. Also the artists on the front are current and in the charts so this will grab the readers attention.
A color scheme that blends well with the photograph. I used the blue and orange because they weren’t too bright yet still stand out to the reader. This works well with the sepia photograph used. It is vital to use the typical elements of a music magazine so that the readers recognize it’s type when they are buying it. However it is also important to create different things in your magazine and use the odd different element to create uniqueness and creativity. This attracts the target audience because it stands out on the shelf. For example I didn’t use a close up image on my front cover like most magazines do. I did this on purpose so that I had a full shot of Alex playing his guitar. This shows is musical talent and also the photograph in the woods that I took creates a story and a theme that I have linked throughout the rest of the magazine. I did this by using another image that I took in the woods of Alex as the background image. This is a more long distance shot that the front cover image but I think it is really successful! My different elements have proved successful when I asked my target audience what they thought of the images used. One of the answers was;“I like how all the images link together throughout the magazine and are not like typical magazine photographs. This is creative and something that stands out to me.”
Contents PageFor my research I looked at different magazines and their pages to look at the conventions of contents pages and spreads like I did with the front cover (on previous slides)Here is an example;A bold title showing that it is the contentsAn image of the featured artist, usually the biggest image on the pageSubheadings that inform which features are on which pageImages of other artists that are included in the magazine
Here is the contents page that I createdAs you can see there are some things that are slightly different from the example of a contents page that I used on the previous slide. This includes; The image of the featured artist which takes up the whole of the page (background) I used this image because I thought it looked really effective and is creative.

Also Ihave included an editors note to make the magazine personal to the reader, as if someone is talking to them about the magazine that they are about to read.

I didn’thowever include different images of other artists that are included in the magazine like the example did. I though that this would ruin the effect of the background image and be too much on the page. Two – Page SpreadHere is an example of a two page spread with the typical elements;Image of the artist or band in the articleThe article itself, usually structured in columns on the page which makes it easy to readA quote from the article in bigger and bolder letters to grab the reader’s attention and make them want to read the article when they first scan the page

This is mytwo page spread; As you can see I have used a big and bold title to instantly inform the reader of who the article is aboutI have included this cut out image of his guitar to show the type of music he creates and the instrument he plays. This gives the reader some background information before they have even read the article. I have included a quote from the article in a bigger font and a bright color to stand out to the audience like on the example. I have set out my text in these columns to create order and an easy read for the target audienceI have used this cut out image of Alex to keep the theme of the photographs that run throughout
