Livestock play an important role in agriculture by contributing over 14% to Nepal's GDP and over 24% to agricultural GDP. They are economically important as they produce milk, meat, and wool. Culturally, some livestock are worshipped for religious purposes and they also provide draft power by pulling carts. Livestock provide fuel through dried dung and biogas and are kept as recreational pets. However, livestock farming also has some limitations such as being labor intensive, facing cultural and religious taboos, requiring large grazing lands, having high initial costs, and competing for food with humans.
