Essential Question: What role did Italy play in the Renaissance?
Goals:
1. Define the meaning of “Renaissance”
2. Explain the two things that were revitalized during the
Renaissance
3. Define and explain the importance of “humanism” and
“secularization”
Opening Activity (1-2 Minutes)
- Get out a half sheet of paper
- Write down as many things as you can about the
Renaissance (do your best)
- However, if you can’t think of anything, make note
of it on your paper
Video Clip (~2:30 minutes)
- Write down as many famous figures, artistic
works, or pieces of literature that look familiar
on the same sheet

Formative Assessment
- Think, Pair, Share
1. (Individually) write down as many traits of a Renaissance Man and
Renaissance Woman as you can think of WITHOUT using your notes (2 minutes)
2. (Individually) compare the similarities and differences of a Renaissance Man
and Woman (2 minutes)
3. (Pair) Turn to the person sitting next to you and exchange information (2
minutes)
4. (Share) Students will be selected to share answers during whole group
discussion (2-3 minutes)
