Hazard: Access/egress
What could cause harm: Blocked gangways & Obstacles preventing safe evacuation procedures.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium ☐ High 
How will the risk be managed: Eliminate
Actions to be taken: Ensure gangways are kept clear at all times. Have an evacuation plan
and ensure cast & crew are briefed on those evacuation procedures.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Audience/public
What could cause harm: Filming around a busy city centre can attract attention and there is a
small chance that the public may hold opposition to the production.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium  High ☐
How will the risk be managed: Control
Actions to be taken: Always be polite to members of the public and avoid being
obstructive/disruptive. If the team feel that a difficult situation is
arising they should stop filming and move away from the location. If
you are filming someone in a public place and they object, stop filming
immediately and explain that you are filming for a student project – if
they are still not happy about you using the footage you must abide by
their wishes.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Cables
What could cause harm: Poor cable management could pose potential trip/collision hazards.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
How will the risk be managed: Control
Actions to be taken: Any cables should be taped down so as not to be an obstacle for cast,
crew or public. If this is not possible, a member of the crew needs to
stand with the equipment to ensure that it is safely managed and no
one trips over it.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Diseases (Covid 19)
What could cause harm: Not being socially distant. Also, interaction with objects and surfaces
that may have the coronavirus on them.
Likelihood of this happening: Low ☐ Medium  High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium ☐ High 
How will the risk be managed: Reduce or Substitute
Actions to be taken: Remaining socially distant from one another. Also, to clean hands for
20 seconds and applying anti-bacterial sanitiser when needed. For the
entire crew to be aware of and adhere to government and university
guidelines regarding Covid 19, and practice caution in their interaction
with others. To wear masks, visors and other PPE when necessary.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Lone working
What could cause harm: Increased vulnerability of working in a lone capacity.
Likelihood of this happening: Low ☐ Medium  High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Crew
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium ☐ High 
How will the risk be managed: Control
Actions to be taken: Where possible, aim to have another person with you. Where that is
not possible, aim to ensure you are working in a safe environment and
have a remote contact who is aware of your movements and location.
Arrange check in points with that person so that they can raise an
alarm and relay information as to your whereabouts, should you
encounter any difficulties.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Manual handling
What could cause harm: Strain from equipment overload
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Crew
How much harm: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
How will the risk be managed: Control
Actions to be taken: Ensure kit load does not pose physical challenges in its transportation.
Undertake correct lifting and carrying procedures.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Slipping, tripping, falling.
What could cause harm: Working in environments with uneven/hazardous terrain may pose
danger.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium  High ☐
How will the risk be managed: Reduce or Substitute
Actions to be taken: Assess the conditions of any shooting environment in advance and
wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions to be
encountered, while also taking adequate precautions to navigate
location conditions safely.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Water
What could cause harm: Danger of drowning.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium ☐ High 
How will the risk be managed: Eliminate
Actions to be taken: Be extra vigilant, if shooting near any water, to ensure that the area
has been fully assessed and filming activity will incur no danger to any
person in the vicinity. If shooting near the river, or any other bodies of
water, ensure a safe distance is maintained from the water’s edge and
that filming activity does not impinge on safe passage between the
production and water’s edge.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
Hazard: Weather
What could cause harm: Being unprepared for adverse weather conditions.
Likelihood of this happening: Low  Medium ☐ High ☐
Who or what could be harmed: Cast/Crew/Public
How much harm: Low ☐ Medium  High ☐
How will the risk be managed: Control
Actions to be taken: Check forecasts in advance and ensure appropriate clothing and
weather protection is taken to locations by cast/crew to maintain their
health and welfare. Avoid filming in severe and dangerous weather
conditions.
The producer should ensure that the team have been briefed on the
potential hazard and that all involved in the production help
implement and uphold the respective risk management process.
