SACRAMENTS OF
INITIATION
“Therefore if any one is in Christ, he is
a new creation; the old has passed
away, behold the new has come.”
2 Cor 5:17
Sin, Evil and Satan –
3 things that the person vows to
reject in Baptism
SIN- saying no to God, refusal to live
like Christ.
EVIL- absence of God’s goodness.
SATAN- father, prince of darkness.
Baptism
• "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration
through water in the word.“
• to baptize (Greek baptizein) means to
"plunge" or "immerse” into the water
symbolizes : the catechumen's burial into
Christ's death, from which he rises up by
resurrection with him, as "a new creature."
Why is Baptism necessary?
Jesus Himself affirmed: “Unless one is
born of water and the Spirit, he
cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
Jn 3:5
During the Pentecost, St.Peter addressed
this:
“You must reform and be baptized, each
one of you, in the name of the Jesus
Christ, that your sins may be forgiven
and you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit.”
(Act 2:37- 38)
As St. Paul states:
“ Are you not aware that we who were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
into His death?
Through the baptism into His death, we
were buried with Him, so that just as
Christ was raised from the dead, we too
might live a new life.”
Rom 6:3-4
“The baptized person is ENLIGTHENED
and he BECOMES A LIGHT himself”
Eph 5:8
FAITH
Key Ingredient in the
sacrament of Baptism
-It is that real force within us that by the
power of Christ’s Holy Spirit,
gradually works a transformation in our
daily thoughts, hopes, attitudes and
values.
What about those who have never
received Baptism without their
fault?
Would they be saved?
Any person who is sorry for the sins
committed, and desires to be
baptized but is unable to receive
Baptism due to the impossibility (ex.
he had an accident) can receive the
sacrament called:
Baptism of desire
Any person who suffers or dies for his
faith of God receives the sacrament
called:
Baptism of blood
2 kinds of Baptism
Adult Baptism
Infant Baptism
Effects of Baptism:
Unites us with the Risen Christ
Unites us with other members of Christ’s
Body, the Church
We share in the Divine Life
(children of God)
Symbols:
Water
Fire
Oil
White Garment(clothed with or put
on Christ)
CONFIRMATION
When a coach sends a soccer player onto the
playing field, he puts his hand on his
shoulder and gives him final instructions.
We can understand Confirmation in a similar
way….a hand is placed upon us, and
we step out unto….

……the field of life.
• Through the Holy Spirit,
we know what we have to do and
we have been given the power to do it!
“God has sent forth into our hearts
the Spirit of His Son which cries out,
‘Abba’ Father”
(Gal 4:6)
“For you did not receive the spirit of
slavery to fall back into fear, but
you have received the spirit of
sonship in whom we cry, ‘Abba
Father’.”
Rom 8:15
CONFIRMATION
-Conferred by anointing with the holy
Chrism on the forehead,
done while imposing the hands and
by these words:
“…., be sealed with the Gift of the
Holy Spirit.”
ANOINTING in the OLD TESTAMENT:
-healing
-purification
-strengthening
-EMPOWERMENT

di
ANOINTING in the NEW TESTAMENT:
-Christ perfectly fulfills the role of
PROPHET
PRIEST
SERVANT- KING
-claimed by Christ as His Own
-empowered by the Spirit to spread
the Gospel
-build up Christ’s Body, the Church

The Holy Spirit: That Spirit whose divine effects
we know: in the people and communities
renewed by His presence.
That Spirit who always answers us when we
call on Him, suggesting words of wisdom.
That Spirit who is like our other self,
to whom we confide and in whom we confide
with certainty,
who gives us comfort, who supports us, whom
we love with a special love:
He is a true friend. He is our friend.
7 GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
EUCHARIST
What is the significance of the
EUCHARIST
It is Jesus Himself
SHARING His Body and Blood for our
Salvation.
The Eucharist is our FOOD and
NOURISHMENT
for our faith-life.
“This is My Body”- Jesus offers Himself as
‘bread’ that is shared by all(without
discrimination)
“This is My Blood”- Jesus gives His Life on
the cross for all of us.
“Do this in memory of Me”
Does not mean to celebrate an anniversary
BUT TO MAKE IT PRESENT!...
the Great Acts of God in the past.
“Whoever eats My flesh and drinks
My Blood remains in Me and I in
him.” Jn 6:56
EFFECTS OF RECEIVING THE HOLY
COMMUNION:
-Union with Christ
-Separate us from sin
- Reconcile and Be reconciled
- Builds up the Church
3 ASPECTS OF THE SACRAMENT OF THE
HOLY EUCHARIST:
1.SACRIFICE
“This is My Body which is being given for
you.”
“This is My Blood of the New Covenant
which is being shed for many.”
Mt 26:27-28
In the Last Supper Jesus established
the New Covenant of Sacrifice
of His own Blood.
The next day, on Calvary He made the
offering of Himself in a bloody
manner.
SACRIFICE
3 ASPECTS OF THE SACRAMENT OF
THE HOLY EUCHARIST:
2. COMMUNION
“All of you take and eat…”
“All of you drink of…”
Eucharist is a sacred meal by which
we, the people of the
New Covenant,
partake of Christ’s own Body and
Blood
Partaking of the Body and Blood of
Christ, people are in communion
with Christ and with one another.
COMMUNION
3 ASPECTS OF THE SACRAMENT OF
THE HOLY EUCHARIST:
3. PRESENCE
“This is My Body; this is My Blood.”
Christ affirms His Real presence
at the Last Supper both in His natural
way of existence
And in the appearance of bread and
wine.
Christ is Truly present in the Holy
Eucharist whether He is received or
not!
PRESENCE
What is our response to Christ’s
immense love in the Eucharist?
