Earth is mostly
referred to "blue
planet" or "water
planet." There is little
to none potable water
on Earth. Potable water
is fresh water that you
can drink anytime.
Earth is covered with
salt water.

Potable Water – freshwater that can
                      be drank anytime safely
Salinity is how much salt has dissolved in the
water. Many areas in the world have hard
water. Hard water contains high
concentration of minerals calcium and
magnesium. There are also organisms living
in water called E.coli. All this, is removed in
water testing. Water testing is complex. There
are 2 common ways to make saltwater into
freshwater. They are distillation and reverse
osmosis.

Water Quality – describes how pure
                     the water is
Science Project - Chintan Shah 8-1
To test water, the water tester people use a
criteria. Here is a table of the criteria:
                                Taste and Odour

•Salinity – salt dissolved in Turbidity
water Toxic Substances
•Hard Water –high
concentration of calcium Bacteria
and magnesium
•Distillation – produces Hardness or Mineral Content
pure water
                                pH
•Reverse Osmosis –
produces pure water Dissolved Oxygen

                                Solids, including floating materials

                                Dissolved Solids
 A wave is on the water surface caused by the
wind. Waves are eroding and depositing
gravel and other substances near shorelines.
A tide is a change in water level which is
caused because the moons gravity. If you see
New Brunswick waters, they change every
    hour.

•Wave – found on the water surface caused by wind
•Tide – change in water level caused by the moons
              gravity
•Stream characteristics- characteristics of a stream
 Stream characteristics are
    characteristics of a stream. The
characteristics include stream flow •Deposition –
rate and the slope of the water beds. stream is
                                            depositing

depositing sediments near a shoreline or in
shoreline or in the water. the water.
 Erosion is when water and streams •Watersheds –
                                            area of land that
    dissolve limestone and other rocks.
                                            drains into one
EG: Caves are from that process. main lake
 Chemical Weathering is when erosion •Continental
happens forming caves. Divide – highest
                                            point of land on
                                            a continent
 Watersheds is all the area of land that drains
into one main lake or river.
 Continental Divide is the highest point of land
in a continent. In North America, the major
    divide is Rocky Mountains.
 The profile of the river is explained in the
    image on the next slide.

 Earth is a stable place. Mountains, oceans, and
continents. The solid outer part of Earth is called
the lithosphere. Made of huge rock it is broken
into huge plates that are moving constantly. They
sometimes crash causing earthquakes and other
    natural disasters.
 These crashing plates also make mountains.
That’s how the Rocky Mountains were made.
 Glaciers are large movie bodies of ice. They are
mostly found in the northern part of world. If
these cover vast areas of land they are called ice
    caps.
•Lithosphere – solid outer
part of earth. It is made of
huge piece of rock and are
broken into plates
•Glaciers – large bodies or
sheets of ice. They are mostly
found in the northern part of
the world.
 Climate is the average weather
measured over a long period of time.
 Currents are streams of water that
move within a large body of water. •Climate – average
This can be caused any of the weather measured
     following:
                                            over a long period
1. Wind of time
2. Temperature Differences in the •Currents – streams
       water of water that move
3. Salinity differences in the water within a large body
4. Earth’s rotation of water and is
 These currents change throughout the caused by 4 things.
     year though.
