How can we write a diary entry?
At the end of chapter 5, Salim and Aunt Gloria have arrived at Ted’s
house and Salim and Ted are sharing a room. You are going to write a
diary entry as if you are either Ted or Salim.
A – I can write in the first person
Write in the first person. You are writing as if you are the character in the
book.
First person:✔
When Salim didn’t get off the pod I began to get a funny feeling in my
oesophagus.
Third person: x
When Salim didn’t get of the pod, Ted began to get a funny feeling in his
oesophagus.
Here is an example of a diary entry from Kat’s point of view.
Thursday 23rd April 2020
Dear Diary,
Today, Aunty Glo and Salim arrived. They’re going to stay with us before they move to New
York. Even though we were at our house, Ted was still dressed in his school uniform. I keep
telling him to wear his normal clothes but he won’t. He can be so strange sometimes. Salim
seemed to think he looked cool though for some unknown reason but I just find it a bit
embarrassing. I quickly said hello to Salim to stop Ted from saying anything else peculiar.
When we were having dinner, Auntie Glo started talking about the artist Andy Warhol.
Auntie Glo told Mum that some people think Andy Warhol might have been like Ted. That’s
when I said that Andy Warhol must have been a weirdo. Mum didn’t look very pleased
when I said that. I felt bad because I know Ted just thinks differently from me but
sometimes I wish he would just try and fit in a bit more.
We’ve decided that tomorrow we’re going to the London Eye. I’ve been before twice and
I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully Ted won’t go on about all the facts he knows
about London and the weather while we’re up there.
You now need to write a diary entry for either Ted or Salim. It should be
written as if it is the end of the day and Salim and Ted are about to go
to sleep in Ted’s room. Consider what Salim or Ted may be thinking
about each other.
