The Very Hungry Caterpillar tells the story of a caterpillar that hatches from an egg on a leaf and spends the week eating through various fruits, becoming increasingly hungry each day. By Saturday, the caterpillar has a stomach ache from overeating but recovers on Sunday by eating one green leaf. The caterpillar then spins a cocoon and emerges two weeks later as a beautiful butterfly.

- 2. In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.
- 3. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and pop! Out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
- 4. He started to look for some food. I’m hungry!
- 5. On Monday he ate through one apple. But he was still hungry. I’m still hungry!
- 6. On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry. I’m still hungry!
- 7. On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry. I’m still hungry!
- 8. On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry . I’m still hungry!
- 9. On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry. I’m still hungry!
- 10. On Saturday he ate through….. That night he had stomach-ache! I’m ill!
- 11. The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better.
- 12. Now he wasn’t hungry anymore- and he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more. He was a big, fat caterpillar.
- 13. He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out ………
