Twitter
Twitter is one of the main things I enjoy to use.
•

The job and Career I could get
out of this is emarketing, social
media in business.

• Some people use twitter for their
idols. They build up a fan account for
them.

Others may use it to improve their
business by connecting with
customers.
• There is a social media job that I found:
http://www.totaljobs.com/JobSeeking/Digital
-Marketing-Assistant_job57758410

People also use Twitter because
they have a clothing website where
they can promote their products to
customers.

• I use twitter as a fan account
page. I use it almost everyday.
The link to my twitter. The fan
page is for Rihanna.
Some reasons why Twitter is a positive website to use
•

If you wanted to see what your favourite celebrity was up to, they would have a twitter account
and they’ll be tweeting what they have been doing and other news.

•

It's online and fresh, it's constantly updating and giving search engines like Google something
new to offer its customers.

•

Twitter is full of content-rich answers to people's questions. Do you want your business to be the
solution to someone's problem? Then you’d tweet it!

•

People buy from people. I always say this in Twitter School. It's not about your brand, your
amazing website or even your incredible logo and YouTube plug-in.

•

People will do business with you if they like you. If people build a good rapport, form a great
relationship, or simply find common interest that helps build a bridge, then they are more likely to
want to work with you.
Some reasons why Twitter is a positive website to use
•

Twitter is a huge website with over 600 million users and is estimated to be worth around
£6.8Billion.

•

Its online profile is pretty well-respected, so links from Twitter to your website are very good for
your site.

•

Posting links on Twitter is not only a great way to let people learn about you or your business, but
also a great way to increase Click Through Rates to help your website ranking.

•

Twitter is brilliant for dealing with complaints or helping people find out more information. Trust
me when I say that people will talk about you online.

•

Why not be there to hear it and then respond quickly and positively to it? Social media in general
can be a great way of interacting with your customers and also showing how well you do this to
others.

Twitter is Viral
If you’ve have succeeded gaining some popularity with your twitter account you will know how
viral twitter can be. This will be part of your marketing strategies that you can use in the future.
Dell have succeeded in making their tweets viral with their promotion tweets.
The news on twitter is normally real-time news. Some times others come up as trends.
What are Twitter Trends?
A trend on Twitter refers to a hash tag-driven topic that is immediately popular at a particular
time. A hash tag is a keyword or phrase that is preceded with a pound (#) sign, as
with #NBAFinals or #USElections.
Trends are determined by an algorithm that monitors hot subjects based on who you follow and
where you’re located.
It presents activity based on real-time hashtag use and not topics that have been popular for a
while. In short, what you see on the trending list are more likely related to the topics that matter to
you and the online community where you belong.
If you’re interested in seeing trends that are not within your network, you can check the Twitter
home page, the discover feature or do an active search on the web. You can easily see what’s
trending on the left side of the page.
News – to stay abreast of real-time industry news
as its breaking.
Twitter propagates news almost immediately after
occurring, so provides almost instant notification
to well versed Tweeters.
The early bird gets the proverbial worm so to
speak!
Tweeting and Retweeting
•
•

Tweeting & Retweeting
Tweeting is the term used to describe talking on Twitter. To tweet, just type into the box at the top
of your page and hit 'Update' – and you've sent a message to everyone who's following you.
Retweeting is tweeting something that someone else has posted; just be sure to attribute what
you're reposting properly by crediting the person who tweeted it with an RT in front of it for
retweet. For instance, if you were retweeting something I had posted, your retweet would start
‘RT @ThisIsAnExample’.
Check who’s tweeted you
To check who has tweeted you or Retweeted one of your tweets, just go to the mentions/connect
tab. The Symbol - (@)
Following
When you search for someone's twitter, a option will come up with a + sign or a button saying
‘Follow’. If you wanted to see that person on your Twitter homepage then click follow. You can
easily unfollow them if you didn’t want to follow them anymore.
Unfollow
If you don’t want someone you follow on your home page, just click on their profile and it should
say where you followed them ‘Following’ just click that, and it will unfollow them.
Trending Topics
•

lists a range of subjects which many users
across Twitter are talking about
simultaneously.

•

When Twitter first got started, "Trending
Topics" were those which were most
popular during the span of the entire
previous week.

•

But new, more advanced algorithms have
now made it easier to detect recent trends,
and cite the very latest most-talked-about
subjects.

•

These days, the "Trending Topics" list
contains things that thousands of people
across the whole of Twitter are discussing at
any one time.

•

Some Trending topics will include hash
tags, thus making it easier for users to tap
into a Twitter-wide conversation regarding a
single matter of interest.

•

A prime example of the usage of hash tags
can be seen with Major League Baseball,
which uses team-name hash tags (#Mets,
for example) to pull together lists of in-game
tweets, which they display on their website.

•
•

•

To create a hash tag use the ‘#’ symbol & it
will come up as a highlighted text which
means its hash tagged.
When you click on a Trending Topic in the
list, it will bring up a range of tweets,
mentioning each matter of interest, and for
each Trending Topic there will be up to
three 'Top Tweets' highlighted
--Those are the tweets in each topic which
have been retweeted more than 150 times.

Designing your Background
Every profile begins with the default background and color scheme. However, you can
personalize it if you wish. Click the button which has a blue square around it on the photo below.
Click on the "Design" tab of Settings.
You can choose from one of the background images provided, or upload your own by clicking on
the button that says "Change Background Image." Then, click on "Choose File" to upload one
from your computer. You can also play with the color scheme by clicking "Change Design Colors.
If you look on the left hand side, there is a list. Click onto Design to change your background.
Customize your profile:
If you go onto account (on the left side of the page), you can change basically anything that’s
listed on there.
Decide when you want to receive emails from Twitter.
Under the "Notifications" tab, there is a list of actions. Check the boxes next to those actions for
which you'd like to receive an email.
Sending Direct Messages (DM)
•
•
•
•
•
•

•

Send DMs
DMs are direct messages. They go straight to the intended person that you are messaging.
The DM feature uses an inbox and outbox system, but you are still limited to using 140
characters; you are also limited to sending DMs to only those users who follow you.
DMs cannot be seen by anyone other than yourself and the chosen recipient, and are more
personal.
To send a DM, go to the page of the follower you're sending one to, and click on the "Message"
box.
Be aware that some people really dislike DMs on Twitter because they reason that Twitter is an
open conversation and a fast one, not a disguise for sending each other private messages. Also,
DMs are not appreciated when they involve marketing or advertising.
Some DMs which are sent to you are spam, If you see A link sent to you, do not open it unless
you told that person to DM you a link..

Followers
Gaining Followers:
Your Twitter can be as intimate or as big as you choose. If your goal is to gather lots of followers,
though, be sure to keep your posts interesting and relevant.
You shouldn't underestimate the power of following others, either—often times if you follow
someone they'll follow you back. Finally, give your favorite followers shout outs occasionally. This
could be through direct tweets, blogs, or a simple #FF (#FollowFriday) mechanism.
This is where you tweet a short list of your key followers who you think would be good for others
to follow and include the hash tag #FF, they are generally sent out at the end of the week hence
the name.
This will often be reciprocated, meaning your name gets circulated. However, #FollowFridays are
going out of fashion and many commentators question their worth due to their spam-like nature.
A simple RT (re-tweet) can be a very effective way of attracting followers.
Re-tweets are a real time affirmation of someone else's statement and is often rewarded with a
follow.
If you join in with follow trains, which is a new trend, you will gain over 100 followers only if you
follow the rules. All you have to do is follow people who RT the tweet.
Verified Accounts
•

If you see a Celebrity with a blue tick next to their twitter name, then that means it’s their real
account.

•

In June 2008, Twitter launched a verification program, allowing celebrities to get their accounts
verified.

•

Originally intended to help users verify which celebrity accounts were created by the celebrities
themselves (and therefore are not fake).

•

Twitter have verified accounts of businesses and accounts for public figures who may not actually
tweet but still wish to maintain control over the account that bears their name.
