Waste and compost
Composting: The
major strategy of
Municipal Solid waste
Management in
Muzaffarnagar,Bharat
First session
Dr.Ashwani kumar , Dr.David langseth,
Ellen Huang, Ching-ching Liu,
Ashu Chaudhary, Himani Goel,
Second Session
Richa Malik , Prachi Srivastava,
GOALS
• Improve composting process.
• Understand how organic waste is currently processed
• Identify opportunities for process improvements in
composting
• Increase demand for compost
• Understand current perceptions of compost and
demand for compost
• Identify opportunities to encourage greater demand
and expand public awareness
METHODOLOGY
Awareness about waste
-At schools and colleges
level
-In residential and
commercial areas
WHAT IS COMPOST...?
PRODUCTS PREPARED FROM WASTE
COMPOSTING
BIOGAS PRODUCTION
MAKE RDF PELLETS
WHAT IS BIOGAS.......?
CURRENT PROCESSING BY A2Z
Waste and compost
Potential Solutions of A2Z
• Separation of waste at household and business
level (Organic and inorganic level)
• Explore opportunities for other types of processing
for waste
GREEN WARRIORS OF A2Z
• BACTERIA
– PSEUDOMONAS
– BOVARIA BASSIANA
– TRICODERMA
– PHOSPHATE SOLUBALISER
• A2Z WORKERS
• Waste collector
DEMAND FOR COMPOST
FARMER’S INTERVIEW
RESULTS FROM
INTERVIEWS
• Chemical fertilizers
– Fast Results but long term harm
– Subsidized by government
– Well known and widely used
• Compost
– Slow results but long term sustainability
– Costs more, unless made on the farm
– Needs more awareness about value
RESULTS OF A2Z RESEARCH
• Total waste
• 60% organic
• 40% inorganic
• Results of waste processed by A2Z:
• PRODUCTS:
• 17.2 – 20.7% compost
• 14.9% RDF
• REMAINING:
• 15 – 22% of weight lost because of moisture/decomposition/dust
• 4.6 – 5.7% landfill
CHALLENGES
• Making compost by A2Z from mixed waste
– not efficient
– may lead to contaminated compost
– variable quality
• Variations in temperature and moisture
throughout the year impacts the
processing of compost and results
• Compost is not widely used in this area
NEXT STEPS
• Identify bottlenecks in the process
• Study community outreach on
environmental awareness initiatives
• Identify markets for expansion
Our Objective
To Reduce Global Warming
by
recycling kitchen waste into
a completely safe, natural
and organic product
Material & Method
VERY EASY TO PRODUCE AT
HOME
Brown Sugar / Jaggery
Stir and mix them well. Close the cap and note down the
date the mission begins.

end of fermentation filter to remove residue
Product is ready for use residue as fertilizer
Result & Discussion
• After three months of spontaneous fermentation
the product is prepared which was filtered through
a cotton cloth or very small pore size mesh.
• After 3 months, extract out the water and leave
only the sediment. The sediment can be dried to
become compost or may be left for next
fermentation.
• Eco product will never expire. The longer you
keep it stronger it becomes.
• If it diluted with water will enhance the power.
Applications of Eco product
1. For fertilizer & pesticide 1 : 1000
2. For insecticide 1 : 1000
3. As plant hormone to get more flower and fruit
dilute 500x
Eco-product adds with water to dilute, it become more power.
