Win 8 Overview
 Content before Chrome
 Content is at the heart of Metro style apps, and is fundamental to the design of
    Metro style apps.

 Fast and Fluid
 User interactions and transitions are quick and intuitive, and animations are
    deliberate and purposeful.

 Multiple State Support
 Support a full-screen, immersive state, and a minimal, snapped view that runs
while a second app takes up the majority of screen space.

 Charms Support
 App contracts provide a way for apps to work together that lets users search
across apps or choose to share content from one app to another. Their
experience improves as users add more apps that support contracts to their PC.

Win 8 Summary
                                                      • Enterprises are adopting a "wait and see" mentality to gauge
consumer adoption prior to developing application. The W8

“Wait & See” because of the user experience geared towards business
users. And, with Microsoft’s Nokia relationship, we expect
greater adoption for W8 phone in Europe

                                                      • The Surface tablet has the potential to be the standout W8
product for business users because of its ability to act as a
Win 8 Surface true desktop replacement. This tablet essentially serves as a
desktop on-the-go. The enterprise user can make client
Tablet communication seamless and access key documents without
a problem, making it an essential companion for the mobile
                                                        worker

                                                      • If a successful release for Microsoft, then we will soon see more
Future of companies offering professionals a full suite of enterprise-ready
applications optimized for instant-on, touch-enabled tablets. This

Windows 8 accessibility is also key for the business user in terms of productivity,
as being away from your desktop no longer has to be a negative issue
for users with W8 products. With the rising expectation for a parallel
Devices mobile experience as such, we could potentially see more employees
adopting W8 in order to adopt a completely mobile environment.

  • #3: Slides 2-5 is an animated introductory sequence to set the tone, capture your audience attention, and communicate the message that the world of work is changing. This sets up the need for “flexible workstyle.”Script:The world of work is changing. [click]All around us -- at home and at work -- we use more and more devices to live our lives [click]
  • #4: Key Messages:Proliferation of consumer devices and digital generation entering work-force lead to higher user expectations of technology at workUbiquitous connectivity, fast paced nature of the modern business erode the line between people’s personal and professional life As a result, people’s individual workstyles are increasingly important part of how things get done.Users increasingly have final say in what technology they use to get job done – this is the trend called ConsumerizationWe (Microsoft) believe consumerization is great as it unleashes people’s productivity and passion and has the opportunity to drive innovation and competitive advantage. We believe there is a power in saying “Yes” to users and their technology requests, and embracing consumerization in a responsible way.Talk Track:Device proliferation, with users having broad access to consumer devices at home, leads to higher user expectations of technology at work. Indeed, according to the recent IDC study, the affluent user around the world ($98K annual income) owns on average 4.8 devices, while in the US there are 6.6 devices owned by the affluent user. Overall, there are estimated 700M personal computing devices WW in 2010, this expected to double by 2014 to 1.47B personal computing devices. Digital generation entering the work place raises these expectations to a whole new level - A generation that has grown up completely fluent in the language of digital technology—from texting, instant messaging, and blogs to Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter—has dramatically different expectations about the tools they should be able to use at work. These tech savvy users are also increasingly mobile, and operate in a fast paced environment. The dynamic environment, along with ubiquitous connectivity erodes the lines between people’s life and work. As the line between people’s life and work gets blurred, people’s personalities and individual workstyles have an increasing impact on how they get their work done and what technology they prefer to use. As a result, users increasingly want a say in what technology they use to get job done – this is the trend called Consumerization of IT. Examples of Consumerization: BYOD (users bringing and using their own PC/ slate/ phone) to work ; using social networking at work and for workA recent Forrester Research study showed that 35 percent of workers in the United States either buy their own smartphone for work, or use unsanctioned Web sites, or download unapproved applications on a work computer. Why? 24% of do-it-yourselfers say the technology is better than what their job provides. 36% say they need it, and their employer won’t provide an alternative. And nearly 40 percent say they use it at home and, well, they want it at work, too.Consumerization is great as it unleashes people’s productivity and passion, innovation and competitive advantage. We (Microsoft) believe there is a power in saying “Yes” to users and their technology requests in a responsible way and our goal at Microsoft is to partner with you in IT to enable you to embrace these trends but also ensure the environment remains secure and well managed. But embracing Consumerization is not easy for companies and it represents some key challenges (Segway to the next slide).
  • #5: Key Message: As the world of work changes, so do our technology needs. From mobile PCs, to mobile phones, and now slates and tablets. Social networking sites, instant messaging, texting…. We need technologies that are as smart and agile as we are.
  • #6: Key Message: So your organization’s technology strategy is more important than everYou need to provide your people the tools they need to get they job done in a world that is very different than just a few years ago
  • #7: Key Points:The changing work environment presents some challenges to IT departments. Talk Track:We believe Consumerization is great as it unleashes people’s productivity and passion, innovation and competitive advantage. And a recent survey by analysts shows that most CIOs believe it is positive as well – over 80% of CIOs rated it as net positive for their organization. However, it is a very hard thing to embark on for a typical enterpriseA recent study by McAfee surveyed IT execs from 300+ enterprise companies in North America, and demonstrated that companies have on average $2M loss associated with a security incident when their user would inappropriately share confidential data on a social networking site. Typical issue that consumerization brings up is, for example, how do you give your employees the connection they need to key apps and data from the road and from variety of devices, so they will stay productive and passionate while at the same time protecting sensitive corporate data? We want to help you address the key challenges/questions of today:Provide anytime, anywhere access to your usersKeep your system and data safeSupport multiple devices while streamlining device management and cutting costs
