About us
The Kusasa Project South African Charitable Trust (IT53/2007), is a Public Benefit Organisation (930026072 ) that aspires to break the cycle of poverty and provide the country with a brighter future by engaging disadvantaged children at an early age to give them a great foundation for educational and human development. Our Kusasa Academy, in the Cape Winelands, is registered with the Department of Education and provides schooling for 150 black beneficiaries from ages 4-10 (in Grades 0-4). Our learners develop a love for learning whilst being encouraged to move into the future as capable, caring and fully contributing members of the world. We have an extensive support programme and offer health checks, therapy (occupational/speech/psychological), learning support, mentoring and social interventions with family members. Learners also receive two nutritious meals per day. In addition, parents and guardians participate in informative workshops that equip them with essential parenting skills. The Kusasa Project is managed by a board of trustees consisting of David Riordan, Doug Gurr, Amy Kleinhans, Richard Alden and Jeff Levy as well as a chief operating officer and is totally dependent on donations as we receive no governmental funding. We encourage international and local businesses as well as individuals to donate finances towards our general and administrative expenses, especially the teachers' salary bill. Our very skilled staff work in a challenging social and political environment with one overriding, guiding principle - it’s all about the kids! We welcome your support (tax-deductible donations). This fascinating session sparked fresh thinking among our educators, who are now motivated to reimagine their assessment practices—placing a stronger emphasis on promoting learning and offering more meaningful feedback to parents. Thank you, Professor Neal Kingston and The University of Kansas. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from leading experts in educational reform. The Kusasa Project ☀️

Investing in Literacy, Empowering Futures At The Kusasa Project, we believe that literacy is the foundation of lifelong learning and success. Our Family Reading Sessions bring parents, teachers, and children together to foster a love for reading, strengthen comprehension skills, and build confidence in young learners. When families actively engage in reading, children develop a deeper appreciation for books, improve their language skills, and gain the tools they need to thrive academically and beyond. Join us in shaping brighter futures—partner with us, support our literacy initiatives, or become a guest reader. Together, we can make a lasting impact. Get involved today by visiting donate.org.za to donate. The Kusasa Project
