2024-03-04Remove the adminpack contrib extensionDaniel Gustafsson
The adminpack extension was only used to support pgAdmin III, which in turn was declared EOL many years ago. Removing the extension also allows us to remove functions from core as well which were only used to support old version of adminpack. 2023-01-20Describe each contrib module in its SGML section titleAlvaro Herrera
The original titles only had the module name, which is not very useful when scanning the list. By adding a very brief description to each title, the table of contents becomes friendlier. Also amend the introduction in the "additional modules" appendix, using the word "Extension" more extensively. Nowadays, almost all contrib modules are extensions, so this is also helpful. 2022-08-19doc: Improve some markups and some wording around archiving modulesMichael Paquier
This commit adds or fixes markups used in a couple of places in the docs (for <command>, <systemitem> and <literal>). While on it, this clarifies some of the documentation added recently for archiving modules with archive_command, that would still be used as default choice if no external module is defined (though an archive module could as well use an archive_command). 2022-03-28Use has_privs_for_roles for predefined role checksJoe Conway
Generally if a role is granted membership to another role with NOINHERIT they must use SET ROLE to access the privileges of that role, however with predefined roles the membership and privilege is conflated. Fix that by replacing is_member_of_role with has_privs_for_role for predefined roles. Patch does not remove is_member_of_role from acl.h, but it does add a warning not to use that function for privilege checking. Not backpatched based on hackers list discussion. 2020-05-07Doc: update remaining tables of functions/operators for new layout.Tom Lane
This converts the contrib documentation to the new style, and mops up a couple of function tables that were outside chapter 9 in the main docs. A few contrib modules choose not to present their functions in the standard tabular format. There might be room to rethink those decisions now that the standard format is more friendly to verbose descriptions. But I have not undertaken to do that here; I just converted existing tables.
2020-01-24Add pg_file_sync() to adminpack extension.Fujii Masao
This function allows us to fsync the specified file or directory. It's useful, for example, when we want to sync the file that pg_file_write() writes out or that COPY TO exports the data into, for durability. 2018-04-06Support new default roles with adminpackStephen Frost
This provides a newer version of adminpack which works with the newly added default roles to support GRANT'ing to non-superusers access to read and write files, along with related functions (unlinking files, getting file length, renaming/removing files, scanning the log file directory) which are supported through adminpack. Note that new versions of the functions are required because an environment might have an updated version of the library but still have the old adminpack 1.0 catalog definitions (where EXECUTE is GRANT'd to PUBLIC for the functions). This patch also removes the long-deprecated alternative names for functions that adminpack used to include and which are now included in the backend, in adminpack v1.1. Applications using the deprecated names should be updated to use the backend functions instead. Existing installations which continue to use adminpack v1.0 should continue to function until/unless adminpack is upgraded. 2017-11-23Convert documentation to DocBook XMLPeter Eisentraut
Since some preparation work had already been done, the only source changes left were changing empty-element tags like <xref linkend="foo"> to <xref linkend="foo"/>, and changing the DOCTYPE. The source files are still named *.sgml, but they are actually XML files now. Renaming could be considered later. In the build system, the intermediate step to convert from SGML to XML is removed. Everything is build straight from the source files again. The OpenSP (or the old SP) package is no longer needed. The documentation toolchain instructions are updated and are much simpler now. to ensure that the resulting webpages have predictable URLs, instead of ever-changing numeric IDs. The new contrib docs were the biggest offender, but some old stuff had the problem too. Also, rename a couple of new contrib sgml files for consistency's sake.
