To purchase Client Management, your organization must have an active Starter or Advanced base subscription. Client Management is not included in these plans by default.
A client record is the central place to manage everything related to a client relationship.
Each record has four sections: Profile, Projects, Contacts, and Portal.
Together, they give your team one place to store client information, track the work you deliver, manage your relationships, and share updates with clients.
To get started, click Clients in the Client Management sidebar.
Select + Create client, then enter your client's name.
You can also add a description, and details like their website, address, client health status, start date and renewal date.
Once created, open the client record to find the four tabs: Profile, Projects, Contacts, and Portal. The sections below walk through how to use each one.
The Profile tab is where your team stores key details about the client relationship. This information is internal and visible to your team only. Use it to record account ownership, contract dates, client health, and other details that help your team stay aligned.
The Projects tab is where you connect the work you do for a client to their record. Open the client, go to Projects, and select + Add project to link an existing project or create a new one.
Note
Adding your first project automatically creates the client's portal. You do not need to set it up separately.
Contacts are the people at a client organization that you work with. You can add them from the client's Contacts tab.
To add a contact:
Client Portal is available on the Advanced tier.
The Portal tab is where your client-facing work lives. Once a project is added, the portal is created automatically. Before sharing it, you can upload a cover image and review the welcome update so your client sees a polished, relevant space when they sign in.
When the portal is ready, select Share with client and invite your client by email. They will receive a link to log in and view the work you have shared with them.
For full details on managing the portal, see Understanding the client portal.
Share work into the portal
After your client has access, you can begin sharing work into the portal. Add tasks, post a status update, and share files from your project so your client can follow progress in one place.
This helps you keep communication and delivery connected. Instead of sending updates across different tools, you can share the work directly where your client already expects to find it.
Note
Only tasks added directly to the portal are visible to your client. Clients cannot see tasks or comments from your internal projects, and this work is never shared to the portal automatically.
If you are working elsewhere in Asana, you can also create a client from the global + button. Select Client to start a new client without needing to open the Clients page first.
