The Energy Superhero After the announcement of the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Award (2023), I was asked how the golden jubilee of the discovery of India’s largest oilfield, Mumbai High, should be celebrated. Having written The Story of Oil (1993) in Assamese, I know how challenging it is to explain oil exploration and production to children. Any celebration must also be one in which the whole nation can participate. I felt that Amar Chitra Katha would be an ideal medium to present this remarkable history. When the recent issue of Tinkle, titled The Energy Superhero, reached me, it strengthened my belief that such dreams can indeed take shape. I appreciate ONGC for bringing out this excellent graphic novel, which can help young readers understand the complex processes of the oil industry. If this story is translated into all Indian languages, it will undoubtedly benefit children across the country. #ONGC: The Energy Superhero

Some Cultural Traits Holding Organizations Back In today’s complex and fast-paced business environment, organizational culture plays a pivotal role in determining long-term success. Yet, certain ingrained cultural traits can quietly undermine performance and stall progress. Two such traits—lack of self-reflection and weak informal communication—are particularly detrimental, especially in large, functionally specialized organizations. 1. The Dormant Habit of Self-Reflection At the heart of any resilient organization lies the principle of “Inside-Out” thinking—the ability to look inward, identify flaws, and initiate meaningful change. Self-reflection is not just a personal virtue; it is a cultural imperative. When organizations embed this trait into their DNA, they create systems that are self-correcting, adaptive, and continuously improving. However, many organizations, particularly those with rigid functional silos, develop a culture of blame. Departments often point fingers at others when problems arise, rather than examining their own processes and shortcomings. This deflection is partly a byproduct of functional separation, which fosters a mindset that external threats are the primary source of failure. As a result, the inward-looking ability of service departments is compromised. The consequences are far-reaching. Without self-reflection, inefficiencies go unaddressed, leading to systemic weaknesses, escalating costs, and stagnation. In contrast, a culture that encourages introspection fosters innovation and operational excellence. Improvement begins not with external critique, but with internal diligence. 2. The Neglect of Informal Communication Equally damaging is the absence of strong informal communication networks. While formal channels are essential for structure and accountability, they often lack the trust and spontaneity that informal interactions provide. Homo sapiens is evolutionarily inclined to trust informal exchanges more than its formal peers. When organizations rely solely on formal communication, they risk creating environments where information is filtered, relationships are superficial, and trust is fragile. A healthy culture encourages open dialogue—not just about successes, but also about failures. Failures should not be swept under the rug or tolerated passively; they should be discussed, understood, and used as development opportunities. This openness is only possible when employees are not isolated in silos and when leaders actively foster informal connections across the organization.

#ONGC produces large quantity of oil and gas from Mumbai offshore. Hitherto the logistics support was from Nhava Supply Base located near Mumbai. A second supply base at Pipavav has been started to support the logistics operations for the fields closer to Gujarat. This has reduced operations cost and turnaround time. A strategic initiative that would lead to greater efficiency. On 22 November 2025, Chairman ONGC Arun Kumar Singh along with Director (Production) Pankaj kumar ONGC, Director (HR) Manish Patil, Director (Finance) Vivek Chandrakant Tongaonkar, Director (Technology & Field Services) Vikram Saxena and other senior officers visited ONGC’s Offshore Supply Base at Pipavav, reaffirming the #Maharatna’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence across offshore operations. #EnergyNowAndNext #YouAreEnergy Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India Arun Kumar Singh Hardeep Singh Puri #SureshGopi

Powering India’s greener tomorrow. To achieve its renewable energy target of 10 GW by 2030, ONGC has taken another major leap in its clean-energy journey by awarding a 300 MW ISTS-connected Solar Power Project with a capacity to generate ~710 million units of green power every year. This milestone strengthens ONGC’s commitment to India’s national mission of 500 GW of RE capacity by 2030. This project forms a core part of ONGC’s integrated plan to develop 300 MW Solar + 300 MW Wind for captive consumption across key operational hubs like Hazira, Uran and group entity OpalIndiaIn . With this addition, our onshore green power consumption will surge from 6% to 47%, a transformational shift towards sustainable operations. Together with #ONGCGreen Ltd (#OGL), we now have RE portfolio of 2.85 GW and with upcoming tenders for 300 MW Wind, 600 MW Solar and 1200 MWh BESS, ONGC–OGL’s portfolio is set to expand to 3.70 GW soon. Every new step strengthens energy security cuts emissions and accelerates India’s transition to a cleaner future. Energy Now. Energy Next. A greener India in the making. #EnergyNowAndNext #YouAreEnergy #NetZero2038 Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India Hardeep Singh Puri #SureshGopi

#ONGC salutes Shri Santanu Mukherjee, Executive Director & Basin Manager, Cauvery Basin, on his superannuation after an exceptional career of over three decades dedicated to strengthening #India’s #energy security. A Gold Medallist from Delhi University, Shri Mukherjee joined ONGC in 1990 and went on to serve across India’s most challenging basins, Krishna-Godavari, Assam & Assam-Arakan, Western Offshore, Vindhyan, and Cauvery. With 14 years of wellsite experience and deep expertise in basin modelling, prospect generation, and reservoir characterization, he contributed significantly to ONGC’s exploration success. His work in the Western Offshore Basin led to major discoveries and ~90 MMt hydrocarbon accretion, earning him the CMD-ONGC Award (2007). He also identified the landmark Hatta Gas Prospect in the Vindhyan Basin, honoured with the CMD Award (2019). At the E&D Directorate, he played a key role in shaping ONGC’s national exploration portfolio and the Hydrocarbon Resource Reassessment Project, receiving the Director (Exploration) Award of Excellence. As Basin Manager, Cauvery, he spearheaded a dynamic revival in deep and ultra-deep-water exploration, with the Chola-1 discovery marking a major milestone. Under his leadership, Cauvery Basin won the Best Performing Major Basin Award (2024–25). A respected geoscientist, he has authored 17 technical papers and contributed widely to professional forums, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists. Shri Mukherjee’s legacy is one of scientific excellence, strategic clarity, and unwavering dedication to India’s energy future. Once an #ONGCian, always an ONGCian. #EnergyNowAndNext #YouAreEnergy Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India Hardeep Singh Puri #SureshGopi
