What is hosting?

Hosting simply means putting your project on the internet so other people can visit it as a website. When you “publish” a project, Bolt takes the files you’ve created and makes them available at a live web address anyone can open in their browser. Bolt hosting lets you publish your project to a live URL in seconds, with a free .bolt.host domain included. No third-party account is required: Bolt handles everything.

Who can use Bolt hosting?

All Bolt users, both Free and Pro, can publish their projects to a .bolt.host domain, although custom domains are only available for Pro users.

Downgrading from Pro hosting to Free hosting

If you downgrade your paid plan to the Free plan, you’re also downgrading to free plan hosting. This has two effects: Any custom domains you already own will stay in your account, and any sites you currently have published to those domains stay online. But you won’t be able to republish or reconnect a custom domain while on the free plan. If you upgrade back to a paid plan, you can republish to a custom domain again. If you stay on the free plan, you can only publish your project to a bolt.host address. The “Made in Bolt” badge is added after the downgrade takes effect (typically when the current billing period ends) and you re-publish your site.
