The JS module has a new 7.x-2.x branch (API) and currently has a 7.x-2.0-beta1 release. Soon a new stable 7.x-2.0 will be released. Just trying to give a heads-up and also asking for feedback/testing if possible.

Although I have contributed to JS, at the moment I really lack time for deeper insight. So any contribution in that direction is very welcome, would like to? :)

Update: I just checked with the 2.x README, but did not find any difference regarding the new API. Also not in ...api.php. I did no in-depth examination.

Independent from this: Since a working js 1.x branch exists (I assume it did not change much?) and with D8 in mind (and the fact we do not even have a D8 port at all, which we should), and also regarding other performance-related best practice having arisen within the last years (Varnish, SSI etc) I don't see a point in any related change for chatblock, but prefer to stick to 1.x for the time being. If you do, or if I miss some important point, feel free to reopen the issue.

There's now a stable 2.x release with updated readme, API documentation and example module.
