Embracing Creativity and Attitude

Creativity can be viewed as an ability, attitude, and process. As an ability, it involves imagining or inventing something new. As an attitude, it requires accepting change and new ideas through playing with possibilities. As a process, creative people continually improve ideas through gradual refinement. There are four creative methods: evolution through incremental improvements, synthesis by combining existing ideas, revolution through markedly different ideas, and reapplication by looking at something old in a new way. Negative attitudes that block creativity include thinking a problem is bigger than it is, believing something can't be done, feeling unable to solve a problem, and denying one's own creativity.
