Cloud Infrastructure Options

This document presents three options for migrating Hamdard Laboratories' infrastructure to the cloud. Option I involves using a load balancer with a farm of 2-3 RDS application servers. Option II segments RDS servers by business unit applications. Option III replicates Hamdard's existing on-premise infrastructure on AWS with application and database servers. The document provides configuration details for each option and recommends starting with the load balanced RDS farm of Option I for cloud migration testing.

HARNESS THE CLOUD THAT DRIVES YOUR BUSINESS GROWTH

Version 2: Nov 07, 2014

Prefix

Following slides contain suggested architectures for

Hamdards cloud migration testing;

Solution-I and II are by nature suitable for scalability and

availability;

Database replication can be done at the DB level and is

not taken into consideration in the following options;

Additional BI applications can be installed on separate

RDS servers to optimize the performance;

Following are the high-level infrastructure diagrams

Additional effort will be required to finalize each option;
Cloud

Recommended Approach
For

Option-I;

Start

with a small RDS farm (2 to 3 RDS servers);

Add

a RDS load balancer;

Add

smaller groups of users to bring resource utilization up to

80% on all RDS servers;

Add

additional RDS servers and add users and adjust the

RDS load balancer;

Set-up

a high-availability one RDS server farm

Cloud

Recommended Approach
For

Option-II;

Calculate

the load of each business unit applications (e.g.

all applications used for HCM or Finance, etc.);

Calculate

the RDS sizing for each business unit applications;

If

required, load balance the RDS server within the business

unit applications;

For Option-III;
Haizoom

will create the servers of the given sizing;
