Title slide
My name, junior, title of presentation with description of relevancy
Slide 1 (name)
Slide 2 (habitat)
Migrate from nesting to feeding sites annually
Slide 3 (characteristics)
Slide 4 (large picture)
talk about bodily characteristics like 5 central scoots and 4
pairs of lateral scoots
Average life span is 80 years
Weigh up to 700lbs
Can be up to 5 feet in length
Color wise the shell is usually brown and green and yellow
(turtles are sometimes hunted for their beautiful shell)
And then the skin as you can see has a green tint thus the
name green sea turtles and this tint is caused by their rich
plant based diet
Slide 5 (Male vs. Female)
When eggs are incubating temp determines whether the
majority of eggs laid will be male or female (hot temp female
cold temp male)
Determining the gender of a turtle can only be done when the
turtle has reached maturity
Slide 6 (life cycle and baby turtles)
Slide 7 (life cycle)
Males typically mature faster than females
For females breeding occurs every 2-4 years and for males its
every year
Slide 8 (breeding)
Females usually... this is a true testament to their intelligence
that they can remember that
A clutch of eggs can be 100-200 eggs
These pits are very recognizable and usually people will mark
these areas if they are on public beaches
Slide 9 (babies!)
It's estimated that only 1 in 1,000 hatchlings will survive to
adulthood
o This is because of the many predators that they face
during their trek to the ocean
Slide 10 (eating habits and food source title)
Slide 11 (food)
Juvenile- eat crabs, jellyfish, sea sponges
Extra protein helps them grow
Slide 12 (eating habits)
Slide 13 (predators and stuff)
Slide 14 (baby hazards)
Baby turtles follow the natural light from the moon to figure out
where the water is beach facing lights can cause problems for
the babys navigation
Luckily there are many organizations that help with hatchings
and use flashlights to further guide the turtles
Slide 15 (adult predators)
Slide 16 (disease)
Reason is unknown? Think its because of human pollution
Slide 17 (people problems)
Slide 18 (there is still hope)
Talk about stranding centers
