bitop CPM 440 / 440 Z

1.

General

1.1

Application

1.2

Bitop CPM 440 / 440 Z is employed wherever

the benefits of two-wire measuring technology
can be used, i.e. supplying power to the
measuring transmitter and analogue
measured value transmission via a two-wire
cable.
Typical areas of application are:

Chemistry
Petrochemistry
Pharmaceuticals
Water treatment
Waste water treatment

Measuring system

Bitop CPM 440 / 440 Z is a microprocessorcontrolled 2-wire loop-powered measuring

transmitter for pH value measurement.
The unit is available in non Ex (CPM 440)
and in Ex-area (CPM 440 Z) versions
(measuring current circuits with type of
protection EEx ia IIC, output current circuit
with type of protection EEx ib IIC).
It is supplied with power by a commercially
available measuring transmitter power supply
unit installed in a control room.
Measuring transmitter power supply unit and
Bitop CPM 440 / 440 Z are connected by a
screened two-wire cable. This connection
(4 to 20 mA) is simultaneously used to
transmit the measured values.
Depending on the version, the unit is intended
for connection to either the pH / Redox compact
electrode system Sensopac CPA 320 or a
pH measuring chain installed in zone 2, 1 or 0
hazardous areas.
Ex versions (CPM 440 Z) for use in zone 2 or 1
hazardous areas carry a nameplate identifying
them specifically for this type of application
(see chapter 2).

4.1

Connection principles

Attention:
The instrument must be grounded
before start-up!

The grounding of the screen must

be kept short. No soldered extensions of the screen!
This is also valid for connection of
junction box VS (see chapter 3.3.2).

If malfunctions cannot be
remedied, the instrument must be
removed from service and
secured to prevent accidental
start-up.

For installation of field housing

(CLM 151) the post must be
grounded increase the immunity to
interfering additionally.

Repair work can only be carried

out directly by the manufacturer or
by Endress+Hauser service
organization.
Warning:

Note:

Notes and warnings of these

operation instructions must be
strictly adhered to!
Maintenance work can only be
carried out by qualified personnel
if the instrument remains
connected to the power supply!

This instrument has been built

and tested in accordance with
EN 61010-1 and left the
manufacturers works in perfect
condition concerning safety
regulations.
Malfunctions of the instrument can
be remedied by means of the error
list in chapter 7.3 without requiring
intervention in the instrument itself.

This measuring instrument is

protected against interferences
like pulse-shaped transients on
supply lines, interference impulses
and high frequency fields as well
as electrostatic discharges according to Namur recommendations,
IEC 801 and DIN VDE 0843.
However, this is only valid for a
properly grounded instrument with
a screened measured value output
line.

Alterations to the instrument are

not allowed and make any guarantee claim invalid.
After installing and connecting the
instrument and sensors the whole
measuring system has to be chekked for function.

Manufacturers certificate
This is to certify that the measuring instruments of the
Bitop CPM 440 / 440 Z
has been radio interference-suppressed in accordance with the regulations as decreed in
the Official Journal BMPT 243 / 1991 with supplement 46 / 1992 and EN 55 011:91
= DIN VDE 0875, part 11, 07.92 and EN 50 081-1.
The German "Bundespost" was advised that this instrument has been brought into circulation
and was granted the right to inspect the series for conformance with the regulations.

The operating function of the instrument is

matrix-oriented, i.e. each function type of the
unit corresponds to a matrix field position
from V0 / H0 to V9 / H9.
The individual operating functions are selected
via the V (vertical) and H (horizontal) keys.
These keys cycle through the matrix fields,
including those which have not been assigned.
The functions of the matrix fields are grouped
into three different levels, depending on their
purpose:

accessible with code 222

Without previous code entry, the content of the

individual matrix fields can only be displayed.
Return to matrix field V0 / H0 (measuring) by
pressing the V and H keys simultaneously.

pH measurement in
hazardous areas

Versions of units identified by the letter Z (for

"Zertifikat", i.e. certificate) are manufactured
and tested according to the unified European
regulations (CENELEC) for Electrical
equipment for areas subject to explosion
hazard.
Installation and operation are regulated by
a comprehensive body of standards and
regulations:
Regulation for electrical installations in
hazardous areas (Elex V)
Regulation for flammable liquids (VbF)
Equipment safety law (GSG)
Explosion guidelines of the BG-Chemie
(EX-RL)
UVV: Electrical installations and equipment

The 2-wire pH measuring transmitter

Bitop CPM 440 Z, constructed according
to the regulations for EX devices, may be
installed in Ex zone 1 (see chapter 9.2
Certificate of conformity).
A measuring transmitter supply unit with
an intrinsically safe supply current circuit
(e.g. Endress+Hauser, type NY 9170Z) is
required to supply power to the Bitop
CPM 440 Z (see chapter 9.1).

7.1

Error handling

Faults occurring during operation are

indicated in two ways:
by a flashing status arrow on the measured
value display next to the horn symbol

by increased supply current consumption

(value = 22 mA) for different operating
conditions (see table below,
)
The numbers of error codes can be shown in
the display by selecting the matrix fields
V9 / H0 to V9 / H2.

7.2

measuring circuit difference is exceeded
on the 2-circuit unit, i.e.
output current value = 22 mA 2)
Measuring range exceeded, i.e.
current measured value shows on display;
current output, however, at upper or lower
limit
Current window too small, i.e.
measuring continues with old parameters
Temperature range exceeded, i.e.
indicated value = 106 C and
output current value = 22 mA 2)
