Dear Parents/Guardians of 9.b
As informed this English course offers a study trip in the fall to London, England. The trip will be
from September 12th-15th. This is a field trip with academic expectations. Students will complete
various assignments, including an English journal, history and culture study, and work with their
awareness of multicultural societies and communication with another culture. The main focus when
visiting London is oral English and culture awareness. The students will use their language skills in
many different situations; Interacting with British students and teachers, communicating with
various people in different situations and much more.
In the upcoming weeks our focus in English class will be texts and activities regarding the Indian
subculture in British society. We have established contact with a friendship class at the
Swaminarayan in Neasden, Northwest London. With this class we will exchange experiences on
culture and subculture, facts about culture, the English school system and much more. We will also
visit the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, also known as the Neasden Temple, to learn more about
Hinduism. This visit will take roughly 2 and a half hours and include a presentation, history and
attending a religious ceremony.
In the following weeks the students will learn more about English and Indian culture and investigate
history and ways of life in London. The students will work with new terms in language learning and
new ways of addressing cultural encounters. We strongly request the students to take action
themselves, and spend some time at home studying this amazing country and the city we are
visiting. We want all our students to be curious and open-minded when exploring different sides of
the British-Indian ways.
The cost of the trip is 1,207 DKK. This will cover: plane ticket, hostel, travelcard in London, all
entrance fees and breakfast. Lunch and dinner are at own cost, but count on 150 DKK a day. Pocket
money are also at own cost. Make sure your child has a valid passport.
May 13th 2016 you are all invited to a parent meeting. Here we will inform you further about our
study tour, the Swaminarayan School and our relationship with them. The attached description of
the study tour will be thoroughly explained, and you will be informed about accommodation, etc.
We encourage participation in field studies because of their unique hands-on learning experiences.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for all students, so please sign up as soon as possible, no later
than May 1st 2016. Please note that the payment for the trip must be in full no later than May 10th.
