Boys Latin Daily Lesson Plan
Teacher: Christine Carroll
Course: Pre-Algebra (Grade 8)
Date: Wed, 1/13
Unit: 3
Objective: SWBAT solve equations using mental math skills.
Common Core Standard:
Solve linear equations in one variable.
Assessment:
Exit Ticket
Agenda:
1. Do Now/HW Review/Collect HW
2. Definitions
3. Guided Practice
4. Independent Practice
5. Exit ticket
Procedure (must include an Agite Nunc and Closing):
Do Now: Problem will be projected on the board when students arrive to class. Students will be asked to evaluate
expressions, which we worked on last week. Students will complete this activity on their weekly do now sheet.
When students have completed their task, teacher will facilitate a review of previous lesson before going over the Do
Now. Students will review important vocabulary with their table partner, then share with the entire class. (This will give
all students to review important concepts and skills they previously learned.
After 4 minutes, two students will come up to the board and lead the do now problems. Once that is done, we will go
over any homework questions. Then, a student will come around to collect the homework.
In introducing equations to students, teacher will present a real life problem and ask students to work with a partner to
create different strategies to use in solving the problem. Teacher will then facilitate a class discussion of the different
ideas students created, while another student makes a list on the board.
Moving onto the lesson, students will follow along on their guided notes while the teacher explains the definitions of
equation and solution. Teacher will explain to students that there are multiple means of solving mathematical problems,
however they will be focusing on one method in class. The teacher will then project a few problems and will model how
to solve them.
Then students will guide the teacher in solving a problem. Afterwards, students will get the opportunity to do problems
on their own on their homework.
Closing: Exit Ticket
Students will be asked to determine if the given value is a solution of the equations. Exit tickets will be collected and
graded for completeness (classwork points).
