MONDAY
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners should have knowledge and understanding of
duration of time, elapsed time, and telling and writing time in
hours and minutes (using a.m. and p.m.).

B. Performance Standards By the end of the quarter, the learners are able to…
 identify and work with time measured in hours, half-hours,
quarter hours, days, weeks, months, years.
 describe duration of time and elapsed time, and read and
write time in hours and minutes.

C. Learning The learners …

Competencies/Objectives 1. describe the duration of an event in terms of number of
Write the LC code for days and/or weeks using a calendar.
each 2. read and write time in hours and minutes, with a.m. and
p.m., using an analog clock.
At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:

K - Identify the number of days of an event.

S - Describe calendar in terms of number of months, number
D. Learning Objectives of days and week per month, the duration of an event in
terms of the number of days using a calendar.
A - Show appreciation for the importance of telling time in
daily activities and school routines.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Prepare learners for the discussion on the target competencies,
presenting the new lesson recall the concepts of ‘telling the names of the days in a week and
months in a year’. These concepts were discussed in kindergarten
curriculum.
To recall these concepts, simply posts these questions.
What is the day today?
Answer: Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday or Friday.

From the question ‘what is the day today?’, ask them these follow
up questions. Check that all learners are paying attention in the
class discussion.
If today is Monday, what is the day tomorrow?
If today is Monday, what is the day yesterday?

What is the day after Tuesday? After Saturday? After Friday? After
Wednesday? After Thursday? Name the different days in a whole
week.
Answer: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, Sunday

Ask the learners to arrange the names of days in this table.

What is your favorite day in a week? Why? [Answer depends on
learners’ response]

What is the date today?

B. Establishing a purpose for In this lesson, the target is to enumerate the name of day,
the lesson name of months using calendar. Then, to know the number
of days and months, in a week or in a month, then to apply
this to know the duration of an event such as number of days
they come to school in a week, days in a summer break,
others.
C. Presenting Calendar, name of months in a year, name of days in a week,
examples/instances of the new number of days and week in a month, number of days and
lesson months in a year
D. Discussing new concepts and Duration of an event or events is a topic in mathematics that
practicing new skills #1 measures time in terms of number of days it takes for an
event to happen. To measure duration of an event, or
interval between two events, the common measure is time.
In this lesson, we will focus with the measure of event in
terms of number of days.
In a week, there are 7 days. In a month, some has 30 days
while others have 31 days, and February has 28 or 29 days.
This depends on the rotation of the earth around the sun.
Mostly the number of days in a year is 365 while 366 during
leap year.
E. Discussing new concepts and Begin the discussion by showing the visual model of calendar
practicing new skills #2 in a current year.
F. Developing mastery (Leads to
formative assessment)

Using a calendar let us describe its parts, ask these

questions:
How many groups of numbers are there? Answer: 12.
Say “these groups are called the months in a year.”
What are the names of the months in a year? Answer:
January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August
September, October, November and December
How many months are there in a year? Answer: 12
What is the date today?
Answer: [this depends on the date of the discussion] March
11, 2025
Now, let us check the parts of a month. Let us look at March.
In numbers 1 to 31, what day is March 11, 2025? Answer:
Tuesday.
The first day of a month always begin with the 1st or 1, in
March what day is 1st day fall? Answer: Sunday
In numbers 1 to 31, why do you think numbers 2 to 8, 9 to
15, 16 to 22 and 23 to 29 are aligned? Answer: These
groupings of numbers in one line are the days in a week.
How many days per line? Answer: 7
So how many days there are in a week? Answer: 7
What are the main parts in a monthly calendar? Answer: The
main parts in a monthly calendar are names and numbers of
days in weeks and in a month.
Let us check your understanding. Ler us practice using these
questions.
How many months in a year? Answer: There are 12 months.
How many days in a month? Answer: There are months with
31 days, there are with 30 days and February has 28 days.
How many days in a week?
Answer: There are 7 days in a week.
How many days do you come to school in a week? Answer: 5
days
How many days are between Monday to Saturday? Name the
days.
Answer: 4 days. These are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday
G. Finding practical To deepen learners understanding on calendar, numbers of
applications of concepts and days and duration of event, ask the learners to answer LAS1.
skills in daily living The expected answers in LAS1.
1. 7
2. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday
3. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
4. 2
5. Saturday, Sunday
6. 30 or 31
7. 28

H. Making generalizations and To firm up learners understanding on number of days and

abstractions about the lesson duration of an
event. Ask them to answer LAS2.
These are the expected answers.
1. a. [this depends on the birthday of each learner]

b. Friday
c. Wednesday
2. 2 days
3. Thursday and Friday
4. 3 months [March, April and May]
5. 61 days

I. Evaluating Learning

Ask learners to answer these questions

by choosing either happy or sad face.
1. I can determine the number of days
of an event.
2. I know the duration of an event in terms of days.

3. I know the parts of a calendar.

J. Additional activities for For this part, teacher may provide additional exercises for
application or remediation practice, if needed.
