Famous Movie Quotes Activity
This is a fun activity if you want to liven up your class. Students love movies
and they also getting away from the grammar books! This activity has an
element of competition, so this should create quite the buzz in your classroom.
Split students into teams of 4/5. Ask them about their knowledge of movies.
Invite them to name a few movies from last year that they liked. Have a vote to
see which was the most popular. See if they remember any famous quotes
from the movie and ask them to explain what the actors meant.
Tell them that famous movie quotes are so popular that people use them
regularly in their daily lives. If, for example, you need to leave the room, but
plan on returning, you can always say in the Terminators voice Ill be back!
Ask the students to think of a few famous movie quotes in English.
Let the games begin!
Next the teams must choose the movies they want from the list (see Answers
section). You will either need to print out the list and give it to them or write
the titles on the board. In rotation let each team choose a title until there are
none left.
Cut the slips of paper up and distribute to the team that chose that particular
film. They must choose the words that best fit the quote.
Scoring You could appoint 1 mark for the correct words in the famous movie
quote and 1 mark for either an explanation of the quote, a reference to the
situation when it was used in the film or an example of them using it in their
own lives. The team with the most points wins.
