Zachary Nesbitt Mrs.

Hensel English III 09 April 2014 Research Paper

The world of welding is an amazing journey for you and your career. Welding is when you take two metals and join them together to make a permanent bond. Welding does have four main types: Gas Metal Arc Welding, Tungsten Insert Gas, Arc welding, and Gas or Oxy Acetylene Welding and Cutting. In order to become a successful welder you must understand the technique of the different forms of welding. Tungsten Insert Gas or TIG is used for making high-quality work when you weld (Welding). TIG does not need much clean up which is done by sanding or grinding. TIG is used most when a good weld is needed. TIG which is sometimes comparable to gas welding is a very skilled weld (Welding). TIG welding needs a lot more expertise. The welder must know what they are doing to not mistake it for gas welding. Gas Metal Arc welding also known as MIG is the most used weld (Welding). MIG is the most used, it is easily learned. You can use MIG at an industry or sometimes at home. The process is used best for fusing mild steel during a heavy duty job (Welding). You can also use MIG for stainless steel, and aluminum. Out of all the types of welding MIG will be the best process for any welder. Arc welding Generally known as stick welding is a simple weld (Welding). Arc welding is the most basic home used weld. You can use arc welding to build a grill or deer stand. Stick welding can be used for manufacturing, construction, and repairs during any weld

(Welding). Suited heavy metal size four millimeters upward is used for ARC welding. You would not use any thin sheets of metal, because Arc welding would burn through. Gas or Oxy acetylene welding Not used as widely for general welding for mild steel is a harder weld (Welding). Gas or Oxy acetylene welding is made from mixing oxygen and acetylene gas to create a flame. This flame is capable of melting steels to be used for making objects. Gas or Oxy acetylene is mostly used today for maintenance work and gas metal cutting during jobs (Welding). It is common to sometimes braze softer metals like copper. You can use Gas or Oxy acetylene welding to weld delicate aluminum pieces. Thomasnet shows that depending on the industry, the level of training and other factors welders generally make between $30-50,000 a year (How to become a welder). If you are a successful welder you can make up to $100,000 a year, by knowing the best processes. Go for the big companies, because they will have more work. Thomasnet shows that most schools are designed to appeal to a wide range of applicants for students worldwide (How to become a welder). The better advanced classes may cost more but in the long run it will be worth it, because you will learn more. Not all states require you to be certified in welding, however it does not hurt to be certified. In order to become a successful welder you have to learn the different techniques. TIG Welding- Gas tungsten arc welding, also known as tungsten inert gas welding, is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. MIG Welding- Is a welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the work piece metals, which heats the work piece metals, causing them to melt, and join. Arc Welding- A technique in which metals are welded using heat generated by an electric arc. Gas Welding- Is a semi-automatic or automatic process that uses a continuous wire

feed as an electrode and an inert or semi-inert gas mixture to protect the weld from contamination. So if you learn these techniques you will have a successful welding career.
