Assessment 1: Planning with Children


Using an activity or experience that you feel is appropriate for the room you work in, have a small
group of children plan and prepare the space for this activity. If possible have these children help you
decide on the activity.
1. What age are the children and what is the activity?
The average age of children group is in between 2 to 3 years.
The activity given to them The unshuffled cut outs of small card boards, which form picture
of mother nature and mother environment after joining those cut outs properly
2. Did the children help decide on the activity.
The children suggested other activities, such as story completion, Rhymes etc. But they were
not able to imagine about this activity because they are very small.
3. Where did the children decide to place the activity? What guidance did you provide?
I divided the group of children in to two parts and given them two different Shuffled Cut outs.
Both group decided to perform this activity in main ground of care centre.
I have marked numeric number in ascending order at the back of Cards, which can help
children group to arrange those cut outs.
4. What materials did the children decide they needed? How did you help them decide?
The material needed by children group is unshuffled pack of cards or cut outs. I have already
provided them.
5. What was the outcome? Provide a description, photo or drawing.
The outcome was interesting. I saw, that after two or three attempts, the children group were
able to attain their goals. They finally managed to complete the picture.
6. What other feedback or comment did you gather from the children during the planning and
preparation?
When I saw, the start up way of children group, I was amazed. I found that, the group were
showing commendable teamwork. I saw, that few children were busy in identifying the
numbers at the back of cards and deciding about their arrangement, where others were
arranging those cards accordingly. It was very nice to see, such kind of group acts.

Assessment 2: Exploring Aspects of Development


Choose one child in care and one aspect of development. Find out what things the child
does at home that supports learning in this area of development.
1. What aspect of development are you looking at?
The child to whom I will choose for the aspect will be of around 3 years old. And I
would like to choose PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SKILL aspect for him. The reason for
choosing this aspect is that, now days, generally children are moving towards obesity
in absence of exercise and having healthy food.
2. Explore the child's cultural capital by finding out what things the child does at home
to support this aspect of development?
At child's home, the family has big grassy lawn and one cute pet dog, which can help
my planning for inculcating of this aspect in child.
3. Identify at least five activities or experiences you could offer to link with both the
child's home life and this aspect of development?
I will go for below mentioned activity for development of the aspect designed for
child:

Half hour morning walk with Dog.


15 Minutes playing with Dog.
As child family have double floor house, so inspite of using elevator, child can
use stairs for commuting upstairs and downstairs.
The child will help to get regular household products such as milk, egg etc
from nearby shop.
In spite of using tricycle for commuting, the child can go on foot at nearby
areas.

4. How do you think the implementation of these linked activities will assist to engage
the child or children?
The above mentioned activities are kind of exercise in itself and that is also with fun.
The above mentioned activities are enough to burn extra calorie for any youth, so in
such cases, a child can easily burn his calories.

Assessment 3: Catering for Development


1. How are the following aspects of development catered for in your current
environment? If they are not provided for how would you ensure they were included?
a) Emotional Development
b) Creative and aesthetic development
c) Moral Development
d) Spiritual Development
In our current curriculum, we do provide all the above mentioned aspects, because
these are very important for development of any child in care centre.
Spiritual Development The child been asked to offer prayer to their respective God
before having any Meals.
Creative Development Regularly, children were given some new task, from which
they can learn creativity.
Moral Development After having lunch, the child were asked to sit in group and
stories about moral development been told to them.
Emotional Development The children have been directed to complete any task in
team only, where this kind of bonding strengthens.
2. Is there a choice of experience available for each of these four developmental areas?
If not, why?
The care centre management understands that, all the developmental aspects are
necessary for complete development of any child. So, all the above mentioned
aspects been used with any Child for his/her further development.
3. Choose one child and explain how the activities and experiences provided currently
captured this child's attention, stimulate a response and engage them. Refer to the
child's interest, strengths and cultural capital.
The child has to perform all the activity for the development of that child. The child
chosen is an obedient child, who obeys all the carers:
The child performs prayer before having meals He is very much in support of
Spiritual Aspect.
The child plays in Group and takes care of his peers He is down towards Emotional
Aspect
The child not only obeys the acts, but also enjoys these activities.

Assessment 4: Evaluating with Children


The activity requires the help of preschool or school age children.
1. Identify one experience from each of the following developmental areas that is set up in
your room:
a) Language Development
I found that, children were very much interested in learning new languages, and while
any new and different word of any particular language been taught to them then they
started laughing.
b) Cognitive Development
The cognitive development takes a lot of mental stress, so few children were getting
tired if any class for such development lasted longer.
c) Physical Development
The physical development act includes, exercises, outdoor games etc. So, children
were leaner towards outdoor games in spite of Exercise.
d) Social, emotional and psychological development
I found the words Social, emotional and psychological are some where heavy words
which, a child may not be able to understand. So, the children were performing some
activities without knowing what actually the word means to them.
2. Set up a creative experience. Describe the experience
a) What age group is this experience suited to?
I think, the age group of child should be more than 3 years old. They were be more
able to understand that, what creativity means.
b) Is it set up indoors or outdoors?
The set up provided to the child group was outdoors.
c) How many children will be involved?
The activity involved the group of 5 children.
d) Are natural or recycled materials included? What materials?
The material required were cut outs of cardboards. So, the cardboard pieces been
manufactured from recycled papers.
e) How did you include discussion and/or decision making relating to sustainability and
material used?

The decision and discussion related to material used was completely goes to carer
only, because, sometimes while discussing with them they got confused and
discussion ended up nowhere.

4. Once the children begin to lose interest in this experience ask some of the children who
participated in the activity to help you change the set up.
a) How many days was the experience set up before the children began to lose interest?
As per my own experience, I found that after 5 to 6 such activity which been repeated
continuously, any average child starts losing interest.
b) How did you know the children have lost interest?
After such repeated activities, every child starts ignoring the tasks or either they try to
pass on those tasks to their fellow friends, which shows that they are losing interest.
c) Did the change take more or less time than another creative experience that may have
been set up in the past?
Usually, the changes take an average time of 4 or 5 days activity. So, it hardly matters
for any activity.

d) How many children did you ask to help you change the set up and why did you choose
these children? Ensure you provide the ages of the children.
I took help of 6 children to set up a new change. I chose only those children because,
they themselves offers help to their carers for doing any new activity and actively
participates in other works.
The average age of child is 3.5 years old.
e) What did these children suggest as a change to the set up? Explain
- They wanted to add materials.

- They wanted to move the activity
- They wanted to start a new experience

The children use to be more attracted towards lovely colours and big size materials.
So, they generally suggest for adding new pastel colours and some volume to
materials.

1. Identify a spontaneous situation that develops into a child led investigation/exploration.
Explain
a) What is the situation?
The situation given to the children was following:
A gift been hide at some place and 5 rhymes been given to them, Whosoever will sing
all the five Rhymes then the address of that gift will be given to child, so that he can
collect that gift.
b) What are the children exploring?
The children were exploring gift which was hidden in rhymes.
c) What are the ages of the children?
The age group of children was 3 years old.
d) Is this free and independent play or more structured or organized play?
The play is not independent, the children has to play them in group only.
2. How did you ensure this investigation / exploration remained child led? Consider:
a) The time allowed or used?
The time allowed and used by children group was about 2 -3 hours.
b) The resources used?
The resources used by them were the rhymes given to them which were written on a
piece of paper.
c) The people included as part of the activity?
The people included as part of the activity were some guards from security agencies,
who will keep the assurance of children over their security.
d) The safety considered?
As already mentioned, security staff will be helping children to reach them at their
goals.
3. How did you encourage children to preserve if they were feeling challenged?
I hooted them while they started their activity, but after one hour, when they were
losing interest then I started them to remind about that expensive gift which they were
going to get.

The outcome was ultimately good because every group completed their task
successfully.

1. What did you learn from these activities?
I found that, children are happier to accomplish any task in group in spite of playing
alone.
2. How do you think the children benefited from you taking these approaches?
I think, the child learn to be socialise and start developing their cognitive
development.
3. How are these approaches similar and different from how your service programs activities
currently?
My service program includes providing any activity which not only gives some lesson
but also physical fitness and cognitive development. So, I think this activity helps
child to develop these aspects.

planning is based on Service and Industry expectations.

I want to rate the curriculum based on the above mentioned ratings because, it gives
standardized format and modification chances for any new addition. So, it gives
flexibility as well as industry security.
4. Explain why do you think this rating is appropriate?
As per me, where I want the rating system should be flexible as well as supported by
any standard system, there this rating system provides both the benefits.

I will definitely consult the about the activities which has to be performed at care with
parents and children. The reason for consulting such things helps me in below
mentioned levels:
The parents and children feel their participation.
Parents usually come out with new ideas.
Parents understand the fears and problems of their children very well.
2. Give an example of when you have acknowledged a childs work.
Once I saw, that one child was trying to make hut with a piece of breads. But, he was
unable to attach door with that. Then I attached that door with help of toothpick and
said Wow Beck, You have done amazingly wonderful job. That child exclaimed with
joy on listening that acknowledgement.
3. Give an example of when you have encouraged a child to participate in an experience that
you think supports their development.
The care centre was organizing in creative competition. So, one child who use to
make various crafts out of coloured papers, had no idea about that what to do in that
competition. At that time, I encouraged him to do so.
4. Give an example of when you have encouraged a child to participate in a new experience
so that they are varying their participation.
The child John, he is a good swimmer, due to which he possess nice height. So, I
encouraged him, which he can start playing basketball also.
5. Give an example of where you adapted an activity in response to a childs actions,
comments or interests?
There are few special children in our care centre, who cannot play normal games. So,
at that time, I developed few ball games which the special child could play.
6. Give an example of where you have responded to a childs choice not participates
At care centre, there is one child who was very good at Football but due to some
unforeseen circumstances, he got his ligament stretch. Due to which, I suggested that
child not to participate in that game.
