bags at school
June 29 - Wednesday
o 5:45 am students arrive at R.I. Baker, bus leaves 6am
o 6-11:30 drive to Alford Lake Parking
area, gear up, route / day plan, boundaries, hazards &
safety, warm up, start ascent
o Orientation with Alford Lake staff
o Hut Orientation, Males set up in one Hut,
Females in Main Hut
o Relax, get fires going in cabin
woodstoves, boil water (snow or creek), get dinner
prepared & enjoy
o 7:30 pm Student activities Alford
Lake history, national parks system & challenges,
mountain inspiration
o 9-10 free time - Sleep!
June 30- Thursday
o 7:30 am Wake up, breakfast, clean up,
pack lunch
o 9:00 am Gun Safety Training
o 1:00 Lunch, 130-2:30 free time in hut

Vehicle/Trail: Emergency vehicles can drive to the
Alford Lake Parking Area and we can move injured person(s) to
this spot via a pulk / makeshift stretcher
Helicopter: Helicopter landing could be in a suitably
flat open area near the lake
Alford Lake staff are well-equipped with stretcher +
trained team for short carry of non-immobilization incidents, as
well as backboard/straps/hard collars for full immobilization
short-carry extractions to helicopter evacuation site.
Red Deer hospital is equipped with ambulances that can
meet us at the Alford Lake Parking area (403 360 7809)

Full first aid kit (including epinephrine for possible
anaphylactic incident), with 3 leader(s) certified in backcountry
wilderness first aid; GPS SPOT, satellite phone, extra clothes,
food, tarps, emergency blankets and full avalanche gear for each
person on the trip
