Intonation in Requests and Statements

Intonation refers to the rising and falling of the voice when speaking. Falling intonation is used for completed statements, wh- questions, and replies. Rising intonation is used for yes/no questions and requests that involve asking someone to perform an action using "can/could/will/would" and adding "please".
