Medical Education Reflection

This document appears to be a reflective portfolio for a medical education program. It details the content covered on the first day of class, which included lectures on assessment validity, reliability, and taxonomy. Types of assessment like diagnostic, formative, and summative were also discussed. The day included an exam in the afternoon. In the reflection, the student describes feeling some stress due to the busy day and exam, but found the topics interesting when explained with examples. They plan to participate more in activities to better understand concepts.

REFLECTIVE PORTFOLIO

Day 1friday 29 june 2018

Content
The class started with dr .Ahsan sethi lecture . This module is about assessment .
Introduction to the Assessment was the first [Link] were introduced to VALIDITY ,which
means any tool(e.g mcq) should measure what it is supposed to measure.
Types of Validity were taught like
Content validity –Assessment contents are shown in table of specification .
Face Validity -- how fair the tool or assessment is the face validity .
Construct validity – construct validity was explained by an example of constructing an
assessment with such tools that each student of any calibre would do that easily .This would
mean one cannot differentiate among the pupils who have worked hard and the one who
havenot. I such cases the construct validity is absent or not monitored for assessment.
Predictive validity ---- we can assume from an assessment that a pupil /trainee or a new entant
to a medical school will make it up .That is we are predicting through assessment .
Concurrent Validity –this is when one make a new tool for assessment , and then compare it
with the previous tool used for the same assessment , whether its giving the same result.
Reliability :- reliability means similarity of result is there or not.
e.g a subjective type assessment is solved and is then sent to 3 different examiner each one
would end up in different results , objective types on the other hand are more reliable with
similar results , in this regards dr .Ahsan emphasized “objectivity is more reliable than
subjectivity .”

we had a tea break . After that we started with

Types of assessment
Diagnostic assessment
Formative assessment
Summative assessment

We wrote our exam after lunch break .

At 4.00 pm we were back to class room .
Principles of assessment
This topic was taught by [Link] .
Competence is specific not generic.
Objectivity is not the same as reliability
What is being measured is determined more by stimulus format than by response format.
All methods can have some inbuilt validity

REFLECTIVE PORTFOLIO

NO single method can do it all. ( like we have 3 different domains so we need different
instruments to assess).
Assessing DOES
-feasible sample is required to achieve reliable inferences.
-Bias is an inherent charachteristic ofexpert judgement.
-validity lies in the users of instrumentsmore than in instrument itself formative and summative
are typically combined.
Qualitative ,narrative ,carries more weightage in assessment
-summative adecisions can be rigorous by using non psychomatic qualitative procedure.

The last topic was

Usefullness of assignment (Utility index)
we were divided into groups and we worked to make a utility index dynamic chart .

Reflection
Reflection should answer the following questions
1. Description of the Event
The module asseement is a little difficult than curriculum , the sequence of event took place
today is mostly stated in content .On the whole day was quite busy with having an exam in it
too , so kind of stress was there. After having lunch and prayers break we sat to do a little
revision .This was followed by examination in Hpe room on first [Link] exam went well.
(What happened?)
(What were you thinking and feeling?)

2. Evaluation and Analysis

Most of the topics as were discussed were discussed with easy examples so found it interesting
.

3. Conclusion and Action Plan….i am now learning more about the medical education , I
wish to work with confidence .I am planning to participate more into the activities so that
when i read the book concepts gets clearer.
