INSTRUMENT OPERATING PROCEDURE -1
UNIVERSAL TESING MACHINE (200kN)
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Universal Testing Machine.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the machine and computer to initialize the instrument.
4. Check the calibration of Machine if required.
5. Select the software and method.
6. Enter Dimensions of the specimens as per test
7. Run the machine up to breakage/specified load as per requirement of specimen.
8. After compeletion of the test release the specimen.
9. Compile the data in software to get the parameters as per test.
10. Note down the data as per test.
11. After completion of the process switch off the power button.
Precaution: Machine should be covered with the steel guard frame or net.

COMPUTERIZED UNIVERSAL TESING MACHINE (1000kN)
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Computerized Universal Testing Mac
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the machine and computer to initialize the instrument.
4. Select the software and method.
5. Check the calibration of machine if required.

INSTRUMENT OPERATING PROCEDURE -3
BRINELL HARDNESS TESTING MACHINE (3000 kgf)
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Brinell Hardness Testing Machine.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the machine to initialize the instrument.
4. Select the weight and indenter as per requirement.
5.Put the sample piece on anvil and rotate the hand wheel clockwise to lock the sample and indenter.
6.Once indentation done, rotate the hand wheel anticlockwise to release the sample.
7. Diameter (D1 & D2) of indentation should be measured with the help of microscope
8. Airthmetic mean of D1 & D2 shall be taken for calculation of brinell hardness.
9. After completion of the process switch off the power button.
Note:- If brinell hardness tester is not calibrated, then calibrate it first with the help of standard block.

INSTRUMENT OPERATING PROCEDURE -4
ROCKWELL SUPERFICIAL HARDNESS TESTING MACHINE
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Rockwell Superficial Hardness
Testing Machine.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are
neat & tidy.
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the machine to initialize the instrument.
4. Select the scale as per requirement.
5. Check the test force from the display and type of indenter.
7. Ensure the Diamond Indenter , 15 kg Load, 30kg Load, 45 kg Load, scale "A", Diamond Indenter with 60kg
Load, scale "B" , 1/16" Ball with 100kg Load and scale "C", Diamond Indenter with 150kg Load.
8. Fit the Indenter/Ball as per scale.
9. Put the sample on anvil & rotate the hand wheel clockwise.
10.Results will display on the screen.
11.Rotate the hand wheel anticlockwise to release the sample.
14. After completion of the process switch off the power button.
Note:- If brinell hardness tester is not calibrated, then calibrate it first with the help of standard block.

MICRO VICKERS HARDNESS TESTING MACHINE
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Micro Vickers Hardness Testing Mac
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the machine to initialize the instrument.
4. Check the test force through the force selection switch.
5. Fit the suitable Indenter as per scale.
6. Check the calibration of Machine if required.
7. If not calibrated, then calibrate it with the help of standard block.
8. Check the focusing on the block by 10X and 40X as per requirement.
9. Use suitable anvil as per specimen.
10.To measure the hardness , press "START" button.
11.After complition of indentation, measure the diagonals of indent with the help of micrometer fitted with the stage
12.Hardness value will be displayed by system.

ABRASIVE CUT-OFF MACHINE
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Metallographic Abrasive Cut-off Mac
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat
2. Check the electrical connections properly.
3. Switch on the power supply to initialize the instrument.
4. Check the Abrasive Cutting Wheel.
5. Check the water level.
6. Check the piece tightened with vise.
7.Start the Water.
8. Prepare machine to cut the specimen.
9. Hold the motor handle and turn towards downside slowly.
10. Cut the sample slowlt and carefully with cooling water.
11. If any issue occurs, inform to the Technical Manager.
12. After completion of the process . Clean the machine properly.
13. Switch off the power button.

CHARPY IMPACT TESTER
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Charpy Impact Test Machine.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat & tidy.
2. Check the connections properly.
3. Select the pendulum according to the test.
4. Initially , Pendulum should be fixed.
5. Energy remains zero at starting.
6. Sample should be Prepared according to the Charpy standard IS:1757
7. Put the sample properly
8.Sample should be put horizontally
9. Allow the Pendulum to swing on the sample (test piece) .
10. When sample break , observed energy on display.
11. If there is any issue, inform technical manager .
12. Clean the machine after use.

IZOD IMPACT TESTER
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the IZOD Impact Test Machine.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are neat & tidy.

3. Select the pendulum according to the test.

CROSS HATCH CUTTER
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Cross Hatch Cut Test.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.
OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Before starting the machine, make sure that machine & your surroundings are

3.On painted area of sample , Mark the cross hatch cut by cross hatch cutter.
4. With the help of brush , clean the cut portion.
5. Adzes the tape on mark
6.Remove the tape from cut portion at an angle of 60°
7. Check wether the paint is removed from cross hatch cut.
8. Properly pack the instrument after use.

MUFFLE FURNACE
PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure to operate the Muffle Furnace.
RESPONSIBILITY: Test Engineer/In-charge Testing/Technical Assistant.

2.Connect the furnace to power supply
3. Red button indicates that the furnace is ON
4. Turn ON the switch to know the present value of Temperature
5. Press the SET KEY to enter the value of temperature
6.Green indicator will begin to glow to show that the heater is ON
7.To view the SET value , press the set button of controller
8.Furnace will start heating now
9.When furnace attained the set temperature, indicator will turn off
10.Turn OFF the Furnace and remove the Sample.

5.Put the specimen on microscope stage and select the suitable magnification.
6.By rotating the right side knob upword or downword , we can focus the specimen surface.
7. Check the ( microstructure, grainsize, inclusion content , case depth, Decarburized depth) and analyze the result with their
standards
8.After checking the interface between microscope , save the image by IMAGE ANALYZER.
9. Analyze the results with the help of respective standards.
10. Switch OFF the Machine properly after use.

GTRINDER/POLISHER MACHINE

6. After grinding , polish the sample in nylon polishing cloth.
7. Polishing should be with lavigated polishing alumina solution in steps →grade 3→grade 2→grade 1 .
8.Water application may be done during polishing process as well.
9. Rotate the grind and polished surface by 90°after each step.
10. After complition of grinding and polishing , switch off the machine
