Knowledge management system
Definition:
It is a system that stores, retrieves knowledge, improves collaboration, locates knowledge sources, mines
repositories for hidden knowledge, captures and uses knowledge, or in some other way enhances the
knowledge management process.
Forms of knowledge management
a) Process- driven applications
b) Automated data integration
c) Data capture and workflow solutions
d) Purpose-built databases
e) Content life cycle management
f) Automated content and classification solutions
g) Document, content and imagine solutions
h) Secure file sharing
i) Optical character recognition
j) Social analysis and engagement solutions
Examples of knowledge management solutions
a) Feedback database
A company may have databases of feedback from customers and employees and share this
feedback with their design and research and development departments
b) Shared project files
An employee’s team can work collaborating on a project. They have a system of shared files and
information that allows everyone on the team to comment on work performed by others
c) Research files
A company developing new products conducts research on their competitors and conducts focus
groups to find out what is needed in their product or market niche
Knowledge management tools
They are systems organizations used for sharing information internally and externally.
Examples are:
