Grade 8 Mitosis Lesson Plan

This document provides an outline for a lesson plan on mitosis taught at Assumption Polytechnic College of Southern Mindanao. The lesson plan aims to define mitosis, identify the stages of mitosis, and explain the important events that occur in each stage through various classroom activities. Students will learn about mitosis through analyzing pictures and GIFs, role playing the stages of mitosis, reporting on the stages through news reports and songs. An assessment asks students to list the sequence of mitosis, identify the DNA copying phase, explain the importance of mitosis, and answer questions as homework about meiosis.

ASSUMPTION POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MINDANAO

J.P Cabaguio Avenue, Davao City

Third Grading – Grade 10

Date: February 26, 2020

Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Grade&Section: GRADE 8 – OLMC

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the learning session, I can . . .
 define mitosis,
 identify and explain the different stages of mitosis
 perform the different important events that takes place in each stage of
mitosis through role play, news reporting, and rap/song; and
 state the importance of mitosis in the cells and in the human body

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: CELL DIVISION: MITOSIS
Lesson: MITOSIS
Competency: S8LT-IVd16
Reference:
Learning Materials: Visual aids, PowerPoint presentation, scotch tape, and board.

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Classroom Daily Routines:

a. Prayer
b. Setting-up learning environment
c. Greetings
d. Checking of Attendance

B. Review
Last Topic – Cell
Present pictures that the students will identify the different
organelles involve in cell division.

C. Developmental Activities:
Activity
Activity No 1: “GIF/PICTURE ANALYSIS”
Strategy/Approach: Individual
Analysis
Process Questions:
 Are you familiar with the character in the GIF/picture?
 Who is in the picture/GIF?
 Naruto replicated himself many times, can do the same?
 Do you know something that can clone themselves?
 What do you think reproduction of cells in our body is essential or
important?
 What do you call this cell division?
 How will you define mitosis?

Abstraction
 Mitosis - a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same
number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue
growth. "the single large egg cell subdivides by repeated mitosis"

Application
Activity No 2: “VIDEO PRESENTATION”
Strategy/Approach: Group discussion, role play, news reporting, and rap/song
Instruction: Discuss the different important events that takes place in each of
stage of mitosis through role play, news reporting, and rap/song.

Activity No 3: “FOOTPRINT RACE”

Strategy/Approach: Group discussion
Instruction: Identify the correct stage involves in the given process. Each group
will have a footprint and they will write their answer in the footprint. Each footprint
consists of 10 points.
The first group who will reach the finish line is the winner.

IV. ASSESSMENT:
Instruction: Answer the following questions. (1/2 sheet of paper)

1. List the correct sequence of steps in mitosis. (2 points)

2. During which phase of mitosis does the cell copy its DNA? (2 points)
3. How many daughter cells are produced at the end of mitosis? (2 points)
Essay (4 points)
4. What is the importance of mitosis in the cells and in the human body?

V – ASSIGNMENT
Instruction: Read about meiosis and answer the following questions: (1/2
sheet of paper)

1. What is the major difference between mitosis and meiosis?

2. What is the importance of meiosis?

VI - Closure:
