Codec Packages
A completely new codec software packaging scheme has been adopted in MSV 1200 for its licenses
featuring flexibility and extensibility. Its foundation is established entirely upon the following five
base codec packs and an add-on option available. Additionally three expansion kits are offered for
maximizing its capacity.
Base Packs:
SD decoder
- Simulcast Pack (SP01): one Simulcast HD&SD decoder. This pack can be mixed with
Add-on Option:
For detailed density support information, please reference SeaChange MediaServer 1200

License Control
License and key control are introduced in MediaServer 1200. SeaChange generates individual
license key for a unique MediaServer. That generated key is then entered in EXD Utility. When the
EXD service is started on the MediaServer, the license key will be checked. It is no use transferring
a license key to another MediaServer as each key is unique for one MediaServer only.

MSV Kit
MSV kit is the main software package for the MediaServer. If your software kit is out of date or
missing on your MediaServer, update it with the latest release of MCL&MSV kit, which is in zipped
form. Please unzip it to C: drive of the MSV. It, once unzipped, contains a folder MCL&MSV X200 Kit
x.x.x which contains six subfolders: Step1, Step2, Step3, Step4 ,Step5 and Tools.
Folders Step1 to Step5 can help you execute build-up of the entire MSV system, from I/O card
driver installation, Exd installation to the registry settings. The detailed description of each of these
folders will be given in the following.
Step1: This folder contains a bat file named Step1.bat which is designed to uninstall the driver
of video I/O card equipped on the MediaServer and MCParam-related files and to delete related
registry settings. Once Step1.bat is launched, the MediaServer will temporarily be unable to
perform its designed function as a codec platform due to uninstalling of I/O card driver. So it is
obvious that this step provides a “clean” platform for next step. In other words, Step1 is applicable
to the situation that reinstallation of MediaServer system software is required. Therefore, you may
skip this step and start directly from Step 2 if you are installing MSV kit on a “clean” MediaServer for
the first time.
Step2: This folder contains a bat file named Step2.bat and a subfolder dsx.utils. As mentioned
in Step1, launching Step2.bat will start to install the driver of video I/O card. The files needed for
this installation are included in the folder dsx.utils. Generally, users don’t need to manually access
this folder.
Step3: This folder contains a bat file named Step3.bat and a subfolder Preparation. To install
MSV kit on MediaServer, some preparation work should be done on the MediaServer such as
enabling 3G memory, installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable Packages,
creating/sharing folder E:\Cache, installing QuickTime SDK, which is required to be installed for
proper use of MSV. To install, simply double-click on the executable file Step3.bat. The files needed
for the installation are included in the folder Preparation. In general there is no need to manually
access this folder.
Step4: This folder, which contains five subfolders Codec, eXd, MCDriver, MCParam, MSIC,
plus a text file readme.txt, provides the remaining and the most important components to finalize
the installation of MSV kit.
eXd subfolder: contains a complete set of installation files that are necessary to eXd
installation on the MediaServer. With setup.exe, users are able to install eXd manually, which,
however, is not what we recommend because setup.exe will automatically be invoked for eXd
installation after the infrastructure of MediaServer has been successfully built up.
PRINTED OR MAILED COPIES OF THIS DOCUMENT ARE NOT UNDER REVISION CONTROL 28
The revision controlled document is maintained online in SeaChange’s Corporate Document Library
MSV1200 Installation Guide
MCParam subfolder: contains MCParam.exe and several DLL files that will be copied into the
MediaServer during the software installation. Generally, users don’t need to access this folder
and the files included.
MSIC subfolder: You could enable the Codec log by applying the registry files
enable-crashdump.reg and enable-logging.reg in MSIC subfolder.
Step5: This folder contains a bat file named Step5.bat and a sub-folder SMG_Lite. Executing
Step5.bat file will install SMG Lite onto the MediaServer.
Tools: This folder contains a sub-folder MSVStat. You may need to use this tool to collect logs for
troubleshooting. Generally, users do not need to use this tool.
To install MSV kit on the MediaServer, just follow the procedures below. To update MSV kit, please
follow the Release Notes of the new MCL&MSV X200 kits or patches.
1. Uninstall previous video I/O card driver. Access Step1 folder of the MCL&MSV X200 kit.
Double-click the executable file Step1.bat to uninstall the driver of the video I/O card. If you
are installing MSV kit on a “clean” MediaServer for the first time, you may skip this step.
2. Install video I/O card driver. Access Step2 folder of the MCL&MSV X200 kit. Double-click the
batch file Step2.bat to install the driver of the video I/O card.
3. Enable 3GB memory, create directory Cache on E:\ volume, install the Microsoft Visual C++
2005 and 2008 Redistributable Package and QuickTime SDK. Access Step3 folder of the
MCL&MSV X200 kit. Double-click to run the batch file Step3.bat to prepare for the installation
of MSV kit on the MediaServer.
4. Install CodecC, MCDriver, MCParam, and EXD. Double-click to run the batch file Step4.bat to
install those components on the MediaServer.
5. Install SMG Lite (optional). Access Step5 folder of the MCL&MSV X200 kit. Double click the
executable file Step5.bat to install SMG Lite software.
6. Optionally, in case of any troubleshooting, you may need to use MSVStat tool to collect logs.
Access Tools\MSVStat folder of the MCL&MSV kit and run MSVStat.exe.
Note after you successfully finish installing the kit by going through the four steps you
have to activate the license and configure the codec port before you could record or
playout anything.

NOTE-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The COM port numbers in the registry represent the encoder/decoder ports.
Generally, the number sequence is decoder->encoder. If both SD and HD
encoder/decoder ports are included in your license, the encoder/decoder
ports sequence will be SD->HD.
If your MSV has one video I/O card, the decoder port numbers are 0, 1, 2,
and 3, while the encoder port numbers are 4 and 5.
If your MSV has two video I/O cards, the decoder port numbers are 0, 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, while the encoder port numbers are 8, 9, 10, and 11.
For instance, if your MSV has one video I/O card, and your license is
1SD10+1SD01+1HD10+1HD01, then the port numbers under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cinegy\MediaClient will be 0, 1, 4 and
5, in which 0 represents SD decoder port, 1 represents HD decoder port, 4
represents SD encoder port, and 5 represents HD encoder port.
If your MSV has two video I/O cards and your license is still
1SD10+1SD01+1HD10+1HD01, then the port numbers under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cinegy\MediaClient will be 0, 1, 8,
and 9, in which 0 represents SD decoder port, 1 represents HD decoder
port, 8 represents SD encoder port, and 9 represents HD encoder port.

MSV Channel Expansion Kit (CEK) includes a RS422 card, a video I/O card, a breakout panel, a
control cable and a video cable.
Preparation
Before CEK is upgraded, due to the usage differences of COM ports, you have to change COM ports
COM11 and COM12 to COM19 and COM20 respectively. In MSV1200 base server, COM5 to
COM8 are reserved for use by decoder, COM9 and COM10 are reserved for use by encoder, while
COM11 and COM12 are not available for use. However, when CEK is upgraded, COM5 to COM12 are
reserved for use by decoder, COM13 to COM16 are reserved for use by encoder, while COM17 to
COM20 are not available for use.
To make that change, access Windows Device Manager and navigate to Multi-port serial adapters >
MOXA CP-118EL Series (PCI Express Bus).
Right-click on it and choose Properties, and then switch to Ports Configuration tab.
