SD22 Hydraulic Pump

Failure/Problem

Hydraulic oil mixed with transmission oil.

Symptom

Transmission oil level is increased and hydraulic oil level is decreased.

History

NA ( New Machine)

Cause & analysis

‘Hydraulic oil level decreases and Transmission oil level increases’ means - There is internal leakage
between hydraulic system and transmission system.

Hydraulic Pump is the point that may lead to internal leakage- from hydraulic system to transmission
system via the shaft seal of Hydraulic Pump.

So, service man should check shaft seal of hydraulic pump if hydraulic oil level is decreased and
transmission oil level is increased at the same time.

Action

Service team inspected and test run the machine. All functions are normal. But transmission oil level is
increased and hydraulic oil level is decreased at the same time. So we dismounted the hydraulic pump to
check. Then we disassembled the hydraulic pump and found that oil seal, bearing, drive shaft, driven shaft
and thrust plate are worn out. So we replaced the hydraulic pump with new one and replaced the hydraulic
oil, transmission oil, hydraulic element filter, transmission element filter and test the machine. OK. Then
suggested the customer to test the machine with load and we monitored the machine for 8 hrs. It’s OK.

Remark

If we checked the pump once the hydraulic mixed with transmission oil, we might be able to prevent the
consequences- damages of drive gear, driven gear, thrust plate.
