Pipe Rack Design Presentation

The document provides design parameters and calculations for a pipe rack structure. It outlines materials used, soil properties, and allowable bearing capacities. It describes modeling the pipe rack in STAAD as a 3D frame with standard sections. Load cases and combinations are defined per design standards. Unity stress ratio diagrams show the pipe rack is within acceptable limits under all load combinations analyzed.

2.0 DESIGN PARAMETERS

For the structural design following materials are used
Characteristic Strength of concrete =25MPa …. (28-day cube strength)
Yield strength of Reinforcement = 500 MPa
Grade of Structural Steel = 250 MPa
For the design of foundation following limits are considered:
Foundation Depth =2m
Net Allowable Bearing Pressure = 400 kN/m2*
Density of soil = 18 kN/m³
Bore hole No. = BH-08
Note: * Reference soil bearing capacity
The Allowable Net Bearing Capacity of soil (Ref. BH No-08) is mentioned 40 t/m2 at 2 m depth below
ground level as per latest geotechnical investigation report document No. XXXX-03-000-XXXXX-
001, for design Allowable Net Bearing Capacity considered is 25 t/m2.
For the design of Steel structure following limits are considered:

3.0 IDEALIZATION OF STRUCTURE

The PR steel structure is modelled in STAAD PRO as a 3D Model. The following Modelling, Analysis
and Design assumptions are adopted
 Modelling is done as a wire frame with frame element command to the scale matching with
Architectural GA drawings at center line.
 Standard Sections are used for the beams, columns, tie members and bracing where adequate.
 Loading for the seismic are generated in STAAD (refer the Appendix B) by providing the specified
seismic parameters.
 Other primary loads are applied in the model using the load commands. Load combinations are
defined as per the design basis XXXX-03-000-XXXXX-001
 Design parameters are defined in STAAD Pro with IS 800 LSD code as mentioned in design basis.
After the super structure design, the reactions from the STAAD model are used for the design of
footings. The design of foundations is done by using STAAD Foundation Advance.

4.0 LOAD CALCULATION

Refer Appendix-B for load calculations. Basic load cases and load combinations are provided as per
