BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL


Shariff Kabunsuan College, Inc. is a recognized higher institution founded on
September 17, 1986 by a group of educators led by its present president, Prof.
Bai Cabaybay D. Abubakar. It is a non-stock and nonprofit corporation
registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission with SEC Registration
No. 135181.
It was first housed in a rented building at the S. Pendatun Avenue, Cotabato
City and lasted there for 9 years. The college was a given temporary permit to
operate on October 1986 (on a special case) by the DECSRO-XII. After 2 years
of operation, SKC was granted a Government Recognition in June 13, 1988
and operates like any other institutions.
Originally, SKC is just like any secular school in the region but with the help of
Muslim friends, it gradually became a school or process with Islamic ethos. The
president have thought of developing the college into a truly Islamic institution
in the Bangsamoro homeland, that can help prepare a generation of Muslim
intellectuals, who are qualified both academically and spiritually. This will
begin the long process of rebuilding the Muslim Ummah or communities and
restoring it to a position of high honor and respect. The program has not yet
manifested itself completely (as the college is not yet fully developed), but it has
started bearing fruits and make a difference,
