7 One Lamp Controlled by One Switch - 20047

1. The document describes an experiment to wire a circuit with one lamp controlled by one switch according to a given layout. 2. Key steps include fixing conduits and junction boxes on a work board, laying wires through conduits per the wiring diagram, and using a series test lamp circuit to check for open or short circuits. 3. The testing procedure involves connecting a test board lamp in series with the circuit lamp and observing whether one, both, or neither lamp glows in different circuit conditions to diagnose faults.

ONE LAMP CONTROLLED BY ONE SWITCH

Aim

To wire up the circuit for one lamp controlled by one switch as per the given layout.

Tools and accessories required:

1 way switch, 1 way junction box, PVC conduits, connecting wires, fuse, lamp, lamp holder, wire
stripper, line tester, insulation tape and test board circuit.

Wiring layout & Condition:

Switch Lamp

OFF OFF

ON BRIGHT

Wiring Diagram:

Test board connection:

Procedure

1. Fix the conduits and the junction boxes on the work board as per the wiring layout.
2. Lay down the wires through the conduits as per the wiring diagram.
3. By connecting a series test lamp circuit check whether there is an open circuit or short circuit.

Testing Procedure

1. Connect the test board lamp in series with the circuit lamp by keeping the test lamp switch
open (OFF) and circuit lamp switch closed (ON).
2. The power rating of the lamp in the test board and in the wiring circuit should have same
wattage.
3. If there is an open circuit then both the lamps will not glow.
4. If there is a short circuit only the test board lamp will glow brighter and the circuit lamp will
not glow
5. When there is no fault in the circuit then both the lamps will glow with equally dim.
6. After testing the circuit, close the test lamp switch, then operate the wiring circuit verify the
conditions.

Simulation Diagram:

Case1: Switch on

Circuit and performance:

Here switch is closed at the test lamp,we shorted the test lamp so it not glows and our
main circuit is connected to the test lamp it glows .

Case2: Switch off

circuit and performance:

19EEE113 - Electrical Engineering Practice

Here we opened the switch at our test lamp, and our main circuit switch is in on
position as there is no fault in the circuit then both the lamps will glow with equally
dim.

CASE 3:OPEN CIRCUIT CONDITION:

the circuit and performance:

there is an open circuit at our main circuit then both the lamps will not glows so our test lamp
and our main circuit lamps not glows

CASE 04:SHORT CIRCUIT CONDITION:

19EEE113 - Electrical Engineering Practice

Circuit and its performance:

there is a short circuit at our main circuit only the test board lamp will glow brighter and the
circuit lamp will not glow

Results and Inferences:

If there is a short circuit only the test board lamp will glow brighter and the
circuit lamp will not glow .If there is an open circuit then both the lamps will not
glow..The power rating of the lamp in the test board and in the wiring circuit should have
same wattage. When there is no fault in the circuit then both the lamps will glow with
equally dim.
