INTRODUCTION TO LOTUS LINOTYPE
Linotype’s Lotus font derives from foundry types cut earlier this century from calligraphic models in
the Ottoman style of Naskh (the traditional style of Arabic script for use in printing). Its graceful
finials and elegant logotypes contribute to the classic look of the face making it particularly suitable for
serious book and journal work.
The OpenType versions of these fonts have taken full advantage of digital technology to allow accurate
positioning of diacriticals and kerning refinements. Lotus font contains two weights, Lotus light and
Lotus bold.
Lotus is a Trademark of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, which may be registered in certain
jurisdictions, exclusively licensed through Linotype Library GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.

OpenType “.otf ” fonts are compact single-file cross-platform fonts, which can have extended language

OPENTYPE FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
The most prominent OpenType layout features in these fonts are: Arabic/Hindi/Farsi figures, letters
used in Farsi, standard ligatures and mark positioning. Note that the choice of which OpenType
features are supported is specific to each application.

MAC OS LANGUAGE SUPPORT
On Mac OS 9.x only the MacRoman encoding is supported for OpenType font. Therefore support for
Arabic and Farsi will be available only in Adobe ME applications. For this reason you have to install
the fonts (the 2 .otf files) in Adobe font folder : HD\Application Support\Adobe\Fonts.
Mac OSX.1.5 is still not supporting Arabic. This support should be available in future Mac OSX
releases.
