The value of primary sources lies in the fact that they introduce students to essential historical concepts.
The first student realizes that all recorded history is based on the author's understanding of historical
events. As a result, a student may understand the subjective essence of a historical account as they read
it. Aside from that, primary sources are typically described as firsthand data or facts. For me as a
student, it is a step forward to understand the backstory of Philippine history because it will aid in my
learning. It offer us insight into what our country been through in the last few decades or years. This
would be beneficial because reading increases our ability to think critically. It also improves the
awareness, skills, and analytical abilities of the readers. Primary sources are important in terms of
authenticity because the information comes directly from the person or group that experienced or
witnessed the past events. Secondary sources is important because it analyze or interpret all the
information from the primary sources and recreate the events more organized.

1. The first reason why Plasencia’s Custom of the Tagalogs is important to the
grand narrative of Philippines History because of the life system of the Filipino
during the pre-hispanic period. According to him there were three castes
during that time witch are called the nobles or maharlica, the commoners or
aliping namamahay and the slaves or aliping sa guiguilir. The aliping
namamahay are those commoners who are married and serve their master
whether he is datu or not with half their cultivated land. And the aliping sa
guiguiliur are those slaves that serve their master in his house and on his
cultivated lands and they can be sold. Knowing these facts opens up the idea
of the current Filipino people that the life system nowadays is not stricter
compared to the system before.
2. The second reason is he mentioned that the early Filipino people have “
Badhala” whom they worshiped with. Badhala is all powerful and maker of all
things priests were called catalonan where they fight different kinds of evil
person such us mangagauay, mancocolam, and hocloban, and also people
have customs during the pre-hispanic period. One of the major example of
this is burial of a deceased person that will be buried beside in this house.
These awakens the current Filipino people what kind of religion they have and
how the Tagalogs worship their gods before.
3. The third reason is that the Customs of the Tagalogs acts as a standard
source of the references as to the pre-conquest natives as it was considered
as a primary source. Plasencia accounts the institution of slavery, marriage,
priesthood, ect., but the reader should be warned that it is neither complete
nor always accurate. Without his accounts, the knowledge on the different
customs of the Tagalogs will be unknown hence, making the relationship
between the past and present customs will not be made.

1. Sword is the most common weapon used in different kinds of war. In Moro
the significance of the sword to them is to defend themselves and their places
to all the intruders. They have different kind of sword like Barong is a thick,
leaf-shaped, single-edge blade swords.
2. The vessel is also one of the material cultures of Moro the pirate ships used
by the Moro’s include various designs like the paraw, pangayaw, garay and
lanong. The majority were wooden sailing galleys (lanong) about ninety feet
long with a beam of twenty feet. And also it’s used to travel to different places
and this ship was equipped with cannons.
3. Armor their armor was made from carabao horn or steel plates was
molded to fit the body and held together with chainmail it could deflect the
blows from a sword but it was useless against Spanish firearms. This armor
was being used to protect themselves and to lessen the impact of the slash of
the sword and the impact of the bullets.
4. Canon it used to destroy other warships and kill the enemy even it is far. It
is type of gun classified as artillery that launches a projectile using propellant.
5. Clothes, their clothes were very important because they use clothes not just
to cover their body but every clothes, they use there is a meaning of it. Slaves
can wear simple clothes and for men they are topless. And for high-rank
people they use to wear decent clothes and jewelries, and their clothes
symbolized their ranks or positions and who they are.

agreement short of full independence and the Filipino government is
committed to reaching a peace agreement. The Moro insurgency was
triggered by the Jabidah massacre in 1968, during which 60 Filipino Muslim
commandos on a planned operation to reclaim the eastern part of the
Malaysian state of Sabah were killed.
We know that the war and conflict in Mindanao is one of the country’s
biggest issues that roots back with their disputes over ancestral land and
religion. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is the
home of the Muslims who fight for their self-determination and aspirations for
a peaceful and progressive region. The main purpose of this Organic Law is
to establish a political entity, provide for its basic structure of government in
recognition of the justness and legitimacy of the cause of the Bangsamoro
people and the aspirations of Muslim Filipino and all indigenous cultural
communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

1. Give the reason why Plasencia’s Customs of the Tagalogs is important to

The work of Juan de Plasencia , specifically Relacion de las
Costumbres de los Tagalogs , or also know as Custom of the Tagalogs, was
considered as a significant aspect in the philippine history since it contains an
immense information regarding the political and socio-cultural aspect within
the Tagalog area. Filipinos are already civilized even before the spanish
colonization, as for his experiences and Observations.Although the original
work was a product of the observation and judgements , this work of
Plasencia was still able to give knowledge about culture and the importance.
Because It is important to the grand Spanish narrative as civilizer and
savior of our doomed souls from eternal hellfire. That’s why the Spaniards will
quote it forever as their prime authoritative source to show just how primitive
we were and how great their contribution was to our development.In the
documents of Plasencia, he also observed the beliefs of the Tagalogs about
their gods, devil's , witches, burials, and their beliefs on afterlife. Although
Plasencia only observed this customs and traditions he manage to give me a
picture of how early Filipinos and live by their customs and traditions.
All these customs were practiced by the Tagalogs or the early Filipinos
even before the spaniards came into the philippines with this kind of fact. It
can be concluded that the early Filipinos have their own style of governing
their people and having a fair judgment system.
2. Despite of passing the Bangsamoro Organic Law and establishment of
Bangsamoro Transition Government to have peace and stability on the Land
of Promise for decades of bloodshed against the Muslim Separatist and
Philippine Government forces. Why there still on-going struggle and terrorism
on Mindanao against the people of the Philippines and Government? How can
we attain the real peace and unity on Bangsamoro Region?
Because of they still struggle in a response to “Historical injustices” and
grave human rights violations committed against the people of the Mindanao.
Before we can attain the real peace and unity on Bangsamoro region first we
need to understand the history of the conflict and learn both side, in the case
of the Bangsamoro conflict, read up on the history of the southern Philippines
from the very beginning. We know that the Bangsamoro struggle has been
labeled as one of the longest-running conflict in the world. Having this kind of
knowledge and clarity will not only bring to light certain misconceptions that
such a long running conflict can produce . It also can help us and inform
legislator and other stakeholders to better guide the conflict resolution
process.
Second read and follow the news and stay update because conflict
situations are not static phenomenons. They evolve, and the causes and
effect change over time. It is also important that we follow the news and read
the opinions of respected politicians, academics and other expert. Doing this
will not only keep us abreast of developments, but also help widen our
perspective. Third is discuss and then act., share our insights and learning to
friends and peers, correcting their misperceptions and helping them have a
more informed stand. The goal is two pronged to enable better understanding
of the issue at hand and increase the chance of finding concrete solution.
